I know that a lot of Nothing fans are disappointed with the emphasis of the company on the Nothing 2a but I have a theory that this segment will be the primary focus of nothing as a company.
I look back to when the phone 1 was launched and the price point they tried to hit with that phone - it was almost in this ballpark. They could not wow reviewers with that product and could not create and sustain the kind of hype wave that they had hoped. They succumbed and released the phone 2 - a product with all the “basics” like wireless charging, premium materials, flagship snapdragon 8 series soc, etc that some people look for in certain markets.
Now that that ordeal was out of the way, they could make the phone they really wanted to make, the true successor of the nothing phone 1 - the nothing phone 2a, protected under the umbrella of the 2, without having to bear the burden of being the “flagship”, it could be what it wanted to be. They made a remarkable phone.
Notice how the updates first roll out to the phone 2a and then to the phone 2, how the special editions exist only for the 2a.
No wonder we are getting a 2a+
I know a lot of y’all are excited about the Nothing Phone 3. It is a concept phone as far as I am concerned. I for one am looking forward to the Nothing Phone 3a, the actual phone Nothing wants to sell (not in the US market I think though). The 3a will be a more refined product and a better value proposition.
