1, 2, 2a, 2a+ - what would you do?

I’m using phone (1) since nearly two years and I’m very happy with it. Some minor issues with the USB port, the connector doesn’t match safe, but I can handle it. Another thing is the but really good camera, but that’s ok for me.

As a gift for myself I’m thinking about buying a new nothing and hoped for the release of the (3) this year.

Now it will be the (2a) + in two days.

What would you suggest me: stay with the (1) until next year? Buy the (2) or the (2a)+? What are the reasons for your suggestions? It why shouldn’t I buy one of the two existing alternatives?

MontyPython p1 to p2a will not be a major upgrade for you, apart from the design. If you are looking for a real upgrade, i think you can wait for p3. I hope your p1 can survive for one more year. Great part about Nothing phones is that each phone gets the same software experience. If you need something right now and looking for powerful phone, you can also consider p2 during sales.

MontyPython I think it all depends on how much you NEED a new phone right now or not.

If you are in need of something now, then I would assess the specs of the (2a) Plus vs (2a) vs (2) to see which one fits your needs most - also taking into account cost differences also.

If you are able to wait a little longer, and likely pay for something a bit more than the (2)/(2a) range then we’re anticipating Phone (3) to come out at some point next year and that would most certainly be a big upgrade from the (1) as Nothing’s latest flagship model.

I have the Phone (1) and don’t need anything more, it’s perfect for me. The Phone (1) will still get Android 15, possibly more so at least a year more. If you are looking for a big upgrade and can’t wait, i would buy the Phone (2). If you can wait a year more, i would get the Phone (3). Upgrading after 3 years is what i would recommend.

You seem content with the phone (1), so what do any of those other phones offer you that you can’t live without for another 12 months or less? You would notice and benefit from a more significant upgrade if you can wait for the phone (3). Perhaps invest the money you could spend on a new phone today and be better off this time next year. Or if money is no concern and you can find a use for your current phone so that it doesn’t go to landfill, then why not treat yourself?

I’m in a similar position with my phone. I want a better camera, bigger storage, and something more compact for easier one-handed use, but I really don’t want to to spend hundreds of pounds for those reasons alone, and also sacrifice other aspects like fast charging.

On the day of release i bought myself 2a. I must say I am really happy with the phone. Unfortunately camera is not the best in low light scenarios. Other than that I would highly recommend it. For this amount of money I cannot imagine a better phone 😄

Now with 2a plus comming out I would wait for the release. However I dont know if camera ‘issues’ are the ones they went after. And if improvements are worth the higher price point

I am a cell phone enthusiast myself and understand your question very well. I know that feeling when you can’t wait to see the latest products in action. I bought the NP2 last year when it was launched and, like the Phone 1, it’s a perfectly balanced phone that can last another year without any problems. To get the feel of a new phone, I would recommend a factory reset so that all unnecessary data is erased and the phone feels like it did on day one. So stay with your Phone 1 and wait for the major upgrade with Phone 3 next year 🙂

Currently their USP is NOS only which is still behind the competition due to missing features & tweaks. Also premium phone should have premium 3rd party apps & features which are ignored completely.
