MontyPython I think it all depends on how much you NEED a new phone right now or not.
If you are in need of something now, then I would assess the specs of the (2a) Plus vs (2a) vs (2) to see which one fits your needs most - also taking into account cost differences also.
If you are able to wait a little longer, and likely pay for something a bit more than the (2)/(2a) range then we’re anticipating Phone (3) to come out at some point next year and that would most certainly be a big upgrade from the (1) as Nothing’s latest flagship model.
