Hey Community,
I hope everyone is doing well. I just wrapped up my third board meeting, and we had some really great discussions. I shared both the positives and negatives from the last quarter, and talked about some of my initiatives and current projects I’m part of. It was also great to meet Toni Petersson for the first time, the new independent board director at Nothing. He is the former CEO of Oatly. We’re planning to sit down in a few weeks to discuss things like innovation, growth, and community. Super excited about it.
Earlier this month, I sat with Tim to talk about finance. You can check out that interview on the community site. But yeah, let’s jump into the updates from today’s board meeting.
Nothing OS and Phone Updates
First off, I talked about the community’s growing interest in Nothing OS 3.0 and Phone (3), especially after the AI integration video from Carl. There was a lot of discussion around AI integration, and I made sure to bring up your concerns about trust, privacy, and the post-app world. Honestly, I’m really excited about where Nothing is heading. It’s exactly what I imagined when I first saw the “Let’s Shape a Better Tomorrow” vision video.
I’ve also brought up questions from our US community regarding Phone (3) availability. And mentioned issues with the camera and battery on Phone (1), as well as the slow charging problem on Phone (2a). The team is already looking into them and have taken the feedback onboard.
CMF Updates
Coming to the CMF side of things, I’ve mentioned the positive reception around the recently launched CMF products. The CMF Phone 1 especially is clearly standing out both in terms of its value proposition and its aspect of community co-creation. I mean, there are endless possibilities this simple modular device can offer. I’m really looking forward to what our community is capable of.
Regarding availability, I did speak about your concerns around the limited availability of accessories, and I’ve also shared some community members’ perspectives on the lack of NFC on Phone 1. The team is working in the background to increase availability and offer more accessories, but we don’t have specific release timelines yet.
For the long-standing CMF users, I have conveyed your concerns to the board regarding support for Watch Pro 1 and the general issues with the CMF Watch app. The team is taking these concerns seriously, and updates are on the way to enhance your experience.
Community Engagement
Regarding the community, it’s inspiring to see everyone embracing co-creation this quarter. We received some amazing entries for the Community Edition project, and I’m excited for the final reveal. Congratulations to all the winners and participants! The (2a) Community Edition is shaping up to be my favourite among all the (2a)s, for sure. The CMF Phone 1 is looking like another fantastic platform for co-creation. I’ve especially loved seeing the contest with Bambu Lab on MakerWorld, which has showcased some great ideas.
But how can we boost co-creation even further? How can we encourage more new people to join, grow, and develop their skills? Providing tools is one solution, and there are some other exciting ideas being discussed as well. I’ve recently started the Community Collaboration Project to gather insights from all of you, especially about any challenges or barriers you face in co-creation. Some of these insights are already being implemented.
I must say, the community team always looks for ways to support our community and is putting in a lot of effort to improve our overall experience. The team is also working on a refresh of the community site, as well as plans for an app, which are on the way. I shared your thoughts on preferred communication platforms and the reasons behind them with the board. I also updated the board on the current structure of the Community Quarterly Updates on YouTube and how the community feels about it.
Community Dots Program
Regarding the Dots program, I know this has been ongoing for the last two quarters, but it’s finally time for some closure. The Nothing team have published details of the closure of the Community Dots program, which you can find in full on nothing.community and Discord. I encourage all verified Dot holders to claim their final perk before August 16. Although all references and perks related to dots will end, I can assure you that we’re all still valued community members and we can stay connected.
Community Spotlight
While we’re on the topic of community, I recently had a chat with two of our most engaged members: @Derren, the current top poster on our community website and one of our moderators, and Flash_26 (@Soumyajit_26), one of the most active members on our Discord server. Their insights were invaluable, and I’m grateful for their contributions to our community.
Final Thoughts
I believe community is everything for Nothing. The way in which the Nothing team engages with the community is a testament to this. My role is a good example. I mean, letting a community member sit on the board and acting on all the feedback is something to be appreciated. And trust me, it’s so easy to talk about positives, but it’s super hard to discuss the negative aspects. It really sparks a lot of discussions and makes the team accountable, putting them in a tough spot. I can bet no other company is doing something like this. There cannot be a better form of direct feedback than this.
That’s it from me. If you have any more questions for the board or leadership to see, feel free to comment down below. I’ll see you all soon in the chat!
