Hi everyone,
I’ve been using the Nothing Phone (2a Plus) for the past five months, and overall, I’ve really enjoyed the user experience. However, I recently started watching more movies and videos on the device, and I’ve noticed a major issue with blacks and dark areas (including greys) appearing heavily pixelated and low resolution. This has been quite disappointing, as it significantly affects the viewing experience.
Since this is my first Nothing phone and my first Android device, I wanted to ask the community:
Is this a hardware limitation of the OLED screen? (I assume its not due to OLED screens cuz I saw many Realme and Mi phones which don’t have this issue)
Could this be a software issue that might get fixed in future updates?
I reached out to Nothing Support, and they mentioned that all OLED screens have a “green screen phenomenon” due to current fluctuations at low brightness. They also stated that dark mode might cause color shifts (green/red hues) but assured me that it wouldn’t impact usage in normal brightness conditions. While I understand their explanation, it doesn’t really address the pixelation and low-res effect in dark areas, which remains a big issue.
Here’s an example of the issue I’m facing with wallpaper pixelation:

And here’s a video I recorded showing the issue during a movie:

Has anyone else faced this? If so, are there any settings or fixes that helped? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks!
