Hi, I have been following the app’s progress since v1, initially for the charging indicator feature for 2a and now for the respectable amount of dedication and work that has been put in by you (the dev) and the contributors (who are graciously mentioned in the app as well). As soon as I saw the discussion, I bought it. Thank you for the great app!

I had a question: with OS 3.0 coming up, what are your plans with the app for the future? (Side note: I like the cat art when you have no ringtones. Great touch!)

I also want to add something about pricing, as an Indian consumer:

₹5-₹10 coffees are available in India but usually from street/local vendors only and are not the best quality objectively and are not preferred anyway by an overwhelming majority of tech consumers here. Even the quick mix coffee sachets that sell here for that cheap do not account for the price of milk, sugar and such for it to be an actual coffee.
Big vendors like Tim’s, Starbucks, Costa, etc. and majority vendors will charge around or, mostly, more than the app’s cost if you want to give a fair estimate.
The support/donate comparison with a “cup of coffee” has been made in the tech world for years and it is to give perspective of the price they are requesting on their end and not to directly compare them for prices in all regions.
You will find a cheaper alternative to literally everything in India due to various reasons but these alternatives are to cater to a consumer base with limited resources and do not reflect the majority of consumers. Making this argument unfair in my personal opinion.
Just like most things you can either find the price to be worth it or it’s just not for you and you have to respect the dev’s decision to make it free or paid. (You can still use the v1 for free via GitHub and if it’s “missing” something then that is what the price is for if not for the efforts that were put in alone).
I’m not commenting on anyone’s economic pool or status but this is a discussion for a ₹110 single-dev self-published third-party app for a company that has phones starting at around ₹20k+ in India. (Avg price based on both launch and sale rates)
Not to mention that you’ll pay once to buy the app and use it for a long time, if you’re interested in it, unlike food/coffee that will require payment per item and sometimes more for milk and such.
DO NOT download or source out APKs, and instead consider supporting the dev. You wouldn’t like it if you made something, asked a fair price (fair according to you as the creator) and then someone went ahead, copied and distributed it to everyone. It’s disrespectful and it’s piracy.

(I’m a fan of the app and the Nothing community and I do not come from a place of hate. Indians get a lot of flack for such comments and I just wanted to give clarity as it is not the best representation of the majority of tech enthusiasts from here.)

About NOS 3.0 I’m completely willing to port the app to make it work there. What I’m hoping is for Nothing to revisit their Glyph Developer Kit, it needs to be polished as it has many bugs that I had to work around to make it work.
Feature wise, I’m always thinking about new ones I can introduce and I have a few in mind but for now the focus is to make the current app more stable and polish it as much as possible.

By the way you are the first one to notice the cat art, I really like it too!

And for the rest, well put! I completely agree with you and with everything you said.
I honestly don’t think I’m charging too much all things considered. If someone is unable to pay or doesn’t feel like it’s worth it I get it, that’s why v1 is still available. Also, it’s not mandatory to buy my app

I apologize for another long message; I just have lots to say.

@Fr4nKB The app is quite polished as is, and you saying that you will work towards that more, fills me with so much confidence. What I like about Nothing is that it’s never just another phone or software suite; there is so much going on, especially with quality-of-life features. For example, I wondered why they didn’t use 2a’s dynamic Glyph for the charging indicator, and you added that. I also questioned why custom ringtones have a default/one-Glyph animation, and you added that too. I appreciate the attention to detail.

I hope they are working on the next version of the Dev Kit, as they often mention that they introduce ideas one by one so everyone has time to learn and adapt.

Feedback & Suggestion:

I love the app! Once you set it up with the necessary permissions, it’s very easy to use and understand. I particularly enjoy how the cat keeps changing with a cheeky pun.

I did want to share that the app crashes for me when I try to share my ringtones (even though it’s probably just the Glyph data and the sound data, and I already have the sound, so it’s no big deal).
^(It saves the applied ringtone to the Glyph composer section when you choose ringtones, which is really all I need from it. This isn’t a complaint, but since there is an option for it, I wanted to provide feedback.)

I would love to see the same functionality for notifications. When I use custom sounds/notifications, one of the Glyphs just blinks twice (the smallest one on 2a, which could vary with the Phone model), even though the music visualizer has proper animations for these sounds.

Additionally, the charging indicator doesn’t work when I wiggle it; instead, it activates when I make the slightest lift on any side or edge of the phone (when it’s lying face down and flat, of course). I personally prefer to the lift instead of wiggling it on the surface, as the surface can vary with location. And it feels more natural to want the phone to face me instinctively with a slight lift/tilt, but I’m sharing this for general feedback.
^(It’s like when you go to do a small lift or tilt any side or edge; the Glyph indicator appears at the start of the lift itself, and you don’t really lift it at all. Hopefully, this makes sense, as it’s hard to describe how slight it is.)

I truly appreciate the respect for privacy. As data becomes more vulnerable day by day, it is important to me that my data— which may reflect my contacts’ data as well—remains safe, and I thank you for that.

For Nothing001 and anyone with similar argument(s):

You know, talking to people used to be free, and now you have to pay for devices, internet plans, network providers, and such. We don’t stop talking to people just because we pay for internet or phone plans. Similarly, just because an app started as free doesn’t mean paying for it isn’t worth it, especially if it has grown and improved in ways that make it even more valuable.
If that doesn’t make sense, consider that water—especially drinking water—used to be available for free everywhere, but now there are filtration costs, purifier costs, municipal water bills, bottled water, and even tap water is mostly paid. We don’t stop drinking water just because it has become paid after being free.

Your argument holds up in theory and is a clever “gotcha” moment, but it doesn’t apply universally. If this app had come out free on the Play Store and then started asking for payment or became paid, I would see the merit in your words.

I suggest watching a few videos to learn about the evolution of tech, app development and the costs associated. FAIR WARNING: YouTube used to be free, but that too has become a subscription model for an ad-free experience and additional features, so be careful!

old app was free coz there was no maintenance , as OS updates, SDK and stuff needs to be updated and I dont think any one man dev can do it for free…….

Amazing Job Dev, Frank i have been following this glyphify since V 1.1

i was amazed by auto composing feature with intensity level change into it even in free version, which was amazing.

i can understand you , your situation more as a fellow student i can also see lots of efforts comes from you alone along with your studies and daily activities.

as a student i cant pay Rs110 indian money but i am willing to buy your app for sure

and willing to know details of your app sale any chance like november black friday sale or new year chirstmas sale, i will buy in the offer period, so keep me posted buddy.

About social media, I was already thinking about creating a profile on Twitter. It would definitely make easier to reach people that are interested in my app since the audience is quite fragmented.

Battery life is one my top priority. As said in a previous post, Glyphify consumes less than Nothing Launcher on average if you are just using it in the background.

Nothing isn’t really exploiting the Glyph interface that much, that’s why I’m here😎
To be honest it’s understandable, most people are interested in other stuff thus they put more effort in different aspect of their OS.
Thanks for the extensive feedback, I’ll address some points:

Share button has been fixed in next release coming today, overall stability of the app should also improve and users should get less crashes. Let me know how it goes for y’all😉
The charging meter activation is almost 1:1 with Nothing official charging meter: it senses when it gets moved in general
No data will ever be collected by me. Data collection it’s something that hate myself and makes me want to uninstall an app immediately.

Fr4nKB This is a very minor thing and I don’t even mind it being left like that. But just for the app aesthetics, it’ll be great if the highlighted tab can stay Black (or some dark color) instead of white, as it is barely visible. I’m attaching an ss below to explain it better 😁

you know this whole discussion reminds me of the arguments saying how Android users are just cheapskates while Apple users aren’t which is why apps were made for Apple devices over Android, atleast in the early days.

I can perhaps understand an initial free app now being charged and people annoyed. Ultimately that’s the devs decision and choice. You can argue and complain until the cows come home. Ultimately, you accept it and pay for the updates and features or don’t.

hi, what you say is true, but only in part. From my experience (I live with the earnings of my apps) started in 2014 I can say that it depends a lot on the nationality of the users you have. Surprisingly I can say that in Europe and America (both Central and Latin American) it is not a big problem to buy software. equally surprisingly, and with much regret, I “point the finger” at India, which despite being a country born with a passion for technology does not buy (or very little) any software, no matter the price (experimenting over the years with various prices). And obviously the majority cannot afford an iPhone, but I can undoubtedly say that even paying 10 INR (0.08 €) is something that they exclude a priori (even though it is a price they can afford)

the experiment was conducted from 2017 to date with my app which has approximately 70k users of Indian nationality, less than 50 users have a subscription of 10INR.

PS: before war, Russia was a wonderful market for softwares too.
