I had some questions I really wanted to ask during the Nothing OS 3.0 AMA, but I couldn’t because the deadline closed a day earlier than expected.. 😭 I’m not sure if the Nothing team will see this, but I’m posting it here just in case.

I’ve had many questions for a designer working on mobile OS designs, so I’m glad for this opportunity! I’ve been interested in smartphone interfaces for years, and I’ve enjoyed designing interface elements. Eventually, I became a UI designer myself. I still design smartphone interfaces as a hobby, and I’d like to share some things I’ve wondered about while working on them.
- In my view, the hardest part of creating an OS interface is ensuring a consistent experience across so many apps and system menus. Even large companies like Google and Apple often have fragmented interfaces, so they invest heavily in building cohesive design systems. Since Nothing OS is based on AOSP, it’s in a unique position. How is the design system for Nothing built, and are there any elements that make it stand out?
- Since Nothing is a smaller company, there must be limitations on implementing desired features or visuals. If there were no limitations, what would your ideal version of Nothing OS look like? Is there a feature you absolutely want to provide users?
- In a previous video, there were several drafts of the updated quick panel. Could you explain some of the drafts in more detail and why they weren’t selected?
- This isn’t a question, but I’d love to see the Ntype font available in more languages in the future.
As a bonus, here are some early drafts of a project I’ve recently restarted. I’d appreciate any feedback from a professional designer! Thanks in advance.
