A few months ago

I joined this competition for a community edition design contest for the Phone 2a.

Now although I didn’t win(congratulations to the winner btw all love no hate) oddly enough I noticed recently my design to be in the Phone 2a “plus” edition.(kinda late to see the news about a phone 2a plus release but nonetheless)

Can anybody see the difference perhaps?

These are screenshots of canva slides to account as proof of the editing of the community competition, that I submitted for months before the winner for the community edition as well as the phone 2a plus was released .

Maybe Nothing can explain alil better in how they came around the process in making the design for the 2a plus?

This is not a hate thing towards the company, just kinda bummed/thrilled how months later released a similar design that’s kinda same with the point of my concept design.

KiCKPLiP I would like to know did you have thought about adding metallic luster to your community design ? If not, I think you maybe have misunderstood Nothing.

SYL the “concept” design rather not the specific metallic touch in mind.

      • SYL replied to this.

KiCKPLiP The reason I ask this question because the main difference between 2a plus and ordinary 2a is add the metallic luster, so this becomes the criterion for I judging did Nothing use your design idea

Louis ☕️ design “idea” 😅. the fact nothing just used a “plain” (metallic shinyness i guess) look to their 2a “plus” (I don’t see why its called a plus, i guess they lost the opportunity for potentially increasing the phone size and battery tbh to even be considered as a plus edition but just kinda looks like my community edition design “idea”🤷🏻‍♂️).

not to mention removing the red square on the plus 🟥(thought that would be their signature touch tbh and I happen to remove the red touch to my version of the design concept. Which led me to think they just copied my concept design to rid of the red square?⬜ 😅 no hate just love. Anyways just kinda saw how it looked so similar to my concept design 🙇🏻‍♂️)

So you claim that the phone Nothing made which was copied by you in the first place is copied by them again?

          Spandan

I suppose imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Regardless, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my vision and contribute to the design community months ago. Somehow thrilled too to see my design concept resonate with the team at Nothing.( a testament to the power of simplicity and clean lines)

Curious to know what the inspiration was behind the design choices for the Phone (2a) Plus and how they align with the company’s vision for the future.

KiCKPLiP Hate to break it to you, but your design was definitely not the inspiration behind.

What? People want credits for same style of np2a.

Sorry, are you saying your design concept was removing all colour accents?

This must mean dozens of things I’ve ‘created’ in the past have been used, from apple, to Toyota.

So this is very confusing, what I think I understood is that you entered the Community Edition Design Contest, your design was not taken and it supposedly has similarities to the final product, am I right so far?

Lighthouse pretty much. it wasn’t on the community edition phone which is cool since the winner really did stand out to be cool and all to be glow in the dark. But I am curious about the design of the Phone 2a Plus. There wasn’t really anything talking about the 2a “plus” edition design concept. Still the phone design still looks cool just somewhat similar to my design concept imo.

One thing you should know about developing smartphones is that these phones are tested and developed for at least a year, these phones are impossible to be made in a few months or let alone weeks, as the manufacturer has to make molds and configure machines ahead of time. The 2a plus’s design is already done at least for 6 months. So there is no way that your design was stolen, and any similarities are purely coincidence.

I want to apologize if my previous post came across as accusatory or negative. My intention was to highlight design similarities between my concept and the Phone 2a Plus, particularly the minimalist colour aesthetic. I was excited to see these elements in the final product.

However, I understand that my post was misinterpreted, leading to negative reactions. It seems some members of the community lacked empathy and constructive dialogue. I appreciate the feedback and constructive criticism from others.

In the future, I’ll be more mindful about how I express my thoughts and opinions here.

              Peace ☮
Happy Holidays and New Year to everyone!
