Hi Nothing, if you read this.
Let me start with: everyone in my family (extended) uses our phones for Android Auto. I could have been a 100% recommendation to them to buy a Nothing phone.
My particular case:
Nothing Phone 2, purchased and first set up in June 2024, updated to 2.5.5
Android Auto via an aftermarket Alpine ILX-W650 … which has recent firmware upgrades (1.021_211101_F037 … from a couple of months ago)
My phone simply will not work with the Alpine unit. I get a “this device not supported” error. I’ve tried doing factory resets on both devices. I’ve updated both devices to latest firmware.
I have used an Essential PH-1 and a Pixel 5G on this head unit with no problems. And my wife’s Pixel 7 and prior to that 2 or 3 other phones she’s owned.
This is the only phone I’ve been completely unable to get a connection to the Alpine with.
I also have a 2nd vehicle with a Kenwood aftermarket Auto unit. My phone connects fine to that unit. Problem is that is my camping van that I drive once in a blue moon. However it did prove to me that the USB cable in that vehicle was known good so I used that cable in my Alpine vehicle and … no joy. Same “not supported” error.
I’m sharing logs from my Google drive in hopes you fix this, but seeing how old this thread is … ouch. I wish I’d seen this thread before buying my phone (and Ear phones). I would likely have bought a different phone.

Neither of these head units have a USB-C to USB-C option. Both use USB-A to C.
I’ll be biting the bullet and trying a wireless dongle. I really shouldn’t need that to make this work. If that also doesn’t work then you’ll be getting a request to accept a phone return. I really hope you guys can figure out what is going wrong with your Android Auto direct connections. Until it’s fixed I won’t be recommending this phone to family (and most of them buy what I suggest when they upgrade). And if it’s not fixed before the next phone model comes out I’ll be steering them away from the brand entirely.
I’m not trying to be an jerk here. I’m aware that you will never notice 5-10 sales that never happen in the first place 🙂 I’m not an internet influencer. But I doubt I’m the only one with a similar story.
