Even if the dynamic refresh rate option is enabled the phone stays on 120 and 90 not going below..Even the aod works on 120 which drains the battery a lot faster

The refresh rate is relative to brightness, if you turn the brightness up you’ll notice that the panel dips lower and If you have the brightness low then the panel will remain at higher refresh rates. Try testing it.

Derren Is it possible to automatically adjust the refresh rate in any state (no matter how bright or dark the screen is)? That would save more power

zongmaosu Based on the experience/testing from many other users it seems to be relative to brightness currently and doesn’t automatically adjust in any state.

The thing with AMOLED panels is that if brightness is too low and refresh rate also drops too low, then you might see some flickering, to avoid such the above mentioned behaviour is applied.

But what about the battery life gains we can get when the phone is dropping lower than 90hz. I think there needs to be a bit more tweaking done in this section.

Also, I do not understand for the life of me, why it is 120hz in AOD. That does not make sense one bit. Please fix this.

Just noticed that my Phone 2 stays in 120hz most of the time. Only while using certain apps it goes to 90. Even in settings and home page it stays at 120. Explains the 6-7hrs sot I guess. Kindly help with a solution.

So I found out that switching off auto brightness and increasing it to 50% is reducing refresh rate to 10hz and 120hz (90hz on apps) This is a bug right ? It’s supposed to do it even at low brightness right ?

Ok so I tested it myself, and I must say there is pretty weird behavior lmao :
First i’m in auto brightness mode, adaptative refresh rate

In native apps : (like settings, home screen, etc…)

120 HZ is working fine when i scroll
go to 10HZ when i’m not touching the screen

In third party apps : like whatsapp for example

stuck in 90HZ when using it
that’s where the weird thing starts, when I dont touch the screen, refresh rate is bumped out to 120HZ for like 0,5 seconds before going to 10HZ as it should be.

Other “bugs”

Also I found that only the settings can go to 120HZ, cause even calculator or message or dialer are stuck to 90HZ
Other wierd behavior in calculator : when idle (not touching the screen), refresh rate is constantly switching between 10HZ and 120HZ on my phone (2) (1sec at 10HZ, 0,1 sec at 120HZ, back again 1sec at 10HZ and so on)

maybe we should need to investigate the refresh rate thing a bit more…

By the way, I’m on phone(2), NOS 2.5 beta

It might be that the refresh rate number is just displayed incorrectly, because when turning on “show surface updates” you can clearly see when the phone is updating at which pace. I dont realy know if that proves anything.

Why is YouTube, Instagram, facebook and other scrolling centric apps refresh rate capped at 90 hz on dynamic refresh rate?

Dynamic refresh rate will alter the refresh rate depending on the content on screen and will optimise battery life, this may be the reason for the cap in some apps.

After testing I can confirm that setting your refresh rate to High will enable 120hz in the apps you mentioned.
