Firstly, here is the video I cobbled together:
So, there is my design! To discuss it further, I have broken down my thoughts after each mood board.
Hello, I am Ryan and this is my submission for the Community Edition of Phone (2a).
The initial inspiration may be already apparent from this title card, but look further down for more detailed notes of where I got my ideas from!
Thanks already for taking the time and I cannot wait to hear your thoughts!
I knew I wanted to make a Purple coloured version of Phone (2a) and with the codename of the device, being the fossil Pokémon Aerodactyl, I wanted to pay homage to this in my design.
So first, I looked at the cartoon, at the greys and the light purples of the creature. I used a colour picker to establish the HEX Codes for the colours, and I found the tones I liked the most being Grey = #cac9da and Purple = #a892bf .
However, I still felt that these were too light, for my liking at least, so I dialled in some deeper, darker variants, as you see above.
My reasoning for the darker purple was actually due to this being my favourite colour! I have loved this deep purple ever since I played the tabletop fantasy game of Warhammer!
My chosen army was the Dark Elves, or Druchii! Their colours were dark and brooding and a lot of their models suggested the use of “Liche Purple”, and there my favourite colour was found!
Which leads me to using this darker colour on my design and I even have a three piece purple suit to match, should I be successful, I will wear to the launch!!
Finally, we come to the side rails and accented buttons. I wished to re-introduce the dark grey I utilised earlier for the NFC Ring around the Dual Camera module, onto the side of the device. The grey rails help box in the vibrant purple, I think!
Then, we all loved the black buttons on the White and Milk (2a), so I wanted to keep that accented approach. Once again, I turned to the codenamed Pokémon for inspiration! Before Aero is re-born, they are a fossil, more specifically they are encased in Old Amber.
So this was once again where I went to, I used the darker highlights of the Old Amber cartoon to get this Dirty Gold-like colour for the buttons and I think they look striking enough to stand out, yet really encompass the rest of the design.
THANK YOU again if you have read all of this. I have thoroughly enjoyed creating this design and I look forward to seeing all of the other submissions and to see what the Nothing Team end up crafting, for this Industry First, Community Edition Phone!
