Well I’m writing this post because I know there is some privacy advocates here that don’t like google on there phones so I’m going to teach you guys how to de-bloat your nothing phone without universal android de-bloater (it doesn’t work on the Nothing phone! as there is no drivers for it or support on the ADB side) So there is always option 2. Shizuku and Canta I thought this should save beginner’s some time on debloating their phones.
First off you need a computer with a USB C connection to your phone.
You need to googles official webpage https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools and download the SDK platform tools for OS.
Once you download the extract that until your get to the folder “platform-tools”
Okay now lets enable developer mode (if you haven’t already)
Go to your settings: about phone > Nothing OS 2.5.6 (click the image) > Build Number (click it 5 times until it says your developer on the bottom)
Now that you are developer navigate to Developers Options > USB Debugging and enable it
Go to your terminal and go to the path one in the file directory type ADB Devices
If it says unauthorized go back to your nothing phone and authorize it it should prompt you with do you want allow this device press enable.
Okay you’ve successfully authorized your Device for access over the wire now we need to install Shizuku
from the google play store and Canta
(from the F-Droid Store or Github link)
Okay now that you’ve done that click View command and you will need to go back to the terminal and paste that in if you need an easy site to transfer the link use cl1p.net (optional) you can transfer clipboards through the internet or manually type it out once you enter the command it will say Shizuku is running
Now open the Canta app and go to the googles apps you don’t want and uninstall them it is recommended that you only uninstall the Recommended tag apps as if you uninstall a system critical app you will have to factory reset your phone
Click the trash icon and they will remove them from the system.
That’s it! You removed the google apps from your phone it’s recommended you download the F-Droid store and download FOSS apps (Free and Open-Source software) which app wise provide the same capability’s like FOSS Contacts, Calendar, Messages, Phone, Clock, Notes are all the same or very similar to the google counterpart but doesn’t spy on you or send metadata through apis.
