NFC Payments with Google Wallet not working

For a few weeks my contactless payments haven’t been working, I’m using Google Wallet.

I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the app, using different cards, adding and removing the cards, restarting, updating. Nothing seems to happen on the screen but the payment fails through the reader.

The Google Wallet says everything is good to go and that everything is set-up.

I’m not using any beta versions.

LinuxJava7 what’s happening when you tap your phone on a card reader? Does the card reader react to it? Does your phone do anything? Also, have you selected a default payment app and is NFC on in settings?

LinuxJava7 Same issue here with NP1. My story is that I got new credit cards, so delete old ones, new ones in. In the shops it says “Unrecognized card”. I got those Google Wallet cards working for a small period of time, when clearing the NFC cache -> reboot -> cards worked for couple of times. Again to same pain “Unrecognized card”. Really, factory reset is not option for me. Can’t figure it out what is wrong, clearly this is some issue on NothingPhone. Has anyone removed NFC service from android? can you install it back?

LinuxJava7 I have the exact same issue, with the exact same diagnosis. The very same debit cards work on the 2nd phone (Samsung S21) simultaneously. So ist obvious its not the cards, and my problem started the same time as you in May/June. Has nothing managed to find a fix for this yet? Its now 4 months and the problem has not been fixed yet. Has anyone advanced with this issue? Look forward to your responses.

Anonymous7 On the London transport system, the light turns red to indicate that it wasn’t accepted/there was an error. It goes green when accepted. That’s where I tested it, but I havent been able to pay on normal card readers either.

I have NFC on and Google Wallet is set as my default app.

On this, have you enabled biometrics with Google Wallet? - I noticed mine asking me for a further fingerprint scan the other day. Maybe this could help?

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I remember running a Beta on my phone once, and not having the ability to use my phone to pay, was sorely missed!

Ealesy101 Sometimes it asks for my fingerprint and sometimes it doesn’t, either way it doesn’t go through, I’ve tried without opening the app, from the lock screen, from the wallet app, and selecting my card and none of them work.

LinuxJava7 this is very odd. Not usual behaviour at all and you have done all of the necessary troubleshooting steps.

I would recommend getting into contact with Nothing Support for the next steps. Fingers crossed for a resolution 🤞🏼

Google Pay has been working without fail however after applying Nothing OS 2.5.6 payments have stopped working. I have used my flipper to confirm no EMV data is being sent. I have tried resetting the cache and data on the Google wallet app and NFC service. My only next step would be factory reset.

I’ve got the same issue here. Using a Nothing Phone (2), updated to Nothing OS 2.6.1(?) and my NFC chip has stopped working. Had no issues whatsoever prior to the software update.

I’m having the same issue. It worked for a little while after i got my NP2 a few months ago and then suddenly stopped working. I could imagine that it’s because of a nothing os update or because I added a work profile, but i don’t have a way to verify that. :/

I heard of this issue but just bought a cmf 1 but now having doubts as no one from nothing has jumped on this to show a work round yet. ThinkI will return it

As workaround another user indicates that data cache of NFC service must be deleted and after doing it, reboot the phone (step by step is in the previous thread).

Some users are saying that this works for them, but was not my case, I had to do a factory reset and then NFC payments worked again, but only for 3 days!..today I have again the same issue with NFC payments.
