A couple of days back there was a discussion on X regarding a dedicated website/app for third-party apps that are created by the passionate community. Well here is a sneak peek concept of what it can look like.

    10 days later

Is there a practical reason for going to the trouble of building more bloatware a dedicated app, when it would be much simpler to have a sticky-thread that lists the apps made by Nothing, the community, or are otherwise recommended?

If users so wish, they can create a shortcut on their Home screen to the thread, which would be better for privacy than an app (if anyone besides me is bothered about privacy)?

sean (1) having a pinned discussion is a good tip. Talk about privacy concerns is premature, since it does not even exists the app itself.

An app is an app, probably offers a better experience than a pinned discussion, and offer a lot of possible features (personalized notification for an app category for example, home screen widgets, search find and related apps and only imagination knows what else).

I have paused the development because there’s not enough apps to make it worth over a pinned discussion tho, but in future, when the apps will be many.. then it would help a dedicated app.

sean (1) According to your thinking do you think all the people using Nothing Phones are in this Community?

You guys are confusing it for another app store. May be I was’nt clear with the concept enough. The app could have been a hub for the young and dedicated supporters of Nothing as a brand. People who have used Jolla phone or Sailfish Os would know how the store implemented both native and third party apps under one roof.

I do reckon a lot of the Nothing’s phone users visit this forum.

Putting aside the point that there are not enough Nothing branded apps to warrant a separate app store, how would one be rolled out to users? If via the Play store, no one who isn’t on this forum would go looking for it there, but if users were to they could find the branded apps anyway (making the site app redundant). If it was installed via an OTA, surely Nothing would need to quality control the app, and do they really want to commit to continue updates and maintanence?

I think you’re right; I must not be understanding it. Apps can go to the app store, and people can talk about branded or recommended apps here in the community forum. Can’t think how another ‘hub’ benefits users, other than to fragment the community.
