I brought just today, once open mobile box I came to know it’s only Indian sim. It should should be known to everyone before buying it in any online platform, you are make all the customers foolish. I am planning to travel UAE coming weeks I brought this mobile in india. What should I do now?

After activating it with an Indian sim on an Indian network, DO NOT factory reset the phone while you’re out of India.

I agree that Nothing/Flipkart/Vijay Sales/Chroma should highlight this warning so that prospective customers are made aware of what to do/what they should not do regarding the India variant.

I’m in Iraq right now.. and for some reason I had to reset my phone now upon restarting it is asking me to insert a valid Indian SIM I do have international roaming on my Indian airtel SIM but I don’t know what to do next please help me out here.

ImtayazMajaz as others have mentioned before you will need to be in India to activate it again on an Indian network why they tell you not to reset the device if traveling

kyl3 I guess I learned it the hard way just came across this blog while trying to reset my phone. This is the first time ever since Samsung S2 days I got into this weird problem of not using my phone while being abroad due to region lock. I have to wait for next three months for this phone to be activated again. I’ll have to avoid future purchase from nothing. Anyway thanks for the reply though.

The sheer volume of people this is happening to implies how stupid of a decision it was to treat people who purchase their phones in India as second class citizens, Everyone reading this thread kindly take a moment to consider spending your hard earned money elsewhere on a company that doesn’t discriminate on its users depending on where they purchase it from.

yashasewi Maybe it’s because NP2 is sold cheaper in India than elsewhere.

There’s no such issue with the “International” variant.

All the same, I do agree that N retailers in India should prominently caution customers not to do anything while they’re abroad which might result in a need to factory reset, eg updating to beta versions etc.

There is one thing every one can do is to reach out to nothing support team, and they will ask your IMEI number, and it will get unlocked in few minutes. (sometimes can take few hours, depends on your region’s customer support).

Is the unlock permanent or is it just one time and we have to do it every time we factory reset the phone?

Wiz_IGdSXhmZoO Well! they did reply to me when I contacted them via below link and after couple of email conversation and sharing my IMEI (01) they said “they unlocked the device” but the issue presist. Luckily I had somebody going to INDIA for RnR I handed over NP02 to him to complete Setup process after detecting that Stupid “INDIAN NETWORK PROVIDER”. It took him hardly 2 mins to finish the Setup process while being in the flight while taxing upon landing at New Delhi. Such a weird restriction. Couple of my friends were interested in buy the device now it seems like deal breaker for them as well.

yashasewi hi, will i need to have an active roaming pack in my Indian sim card when i mail nothing support team to unlock my phone? And once unlocked using my device IMEI, will i need to repeat the process again and again the next time i reset my phone?

I recently bought the phone through my Indian friend, and in India they unboxed everything on delivery. So I also learn it the hard way after the unbox and then this thread. I cannot return the phone anymore and the payment is gone.

Just for clarification, please correct me if I’m wrong, as long as I follow these steps I can use the phone outside of India:

Unlock the phone in INDIA with INDIAN SIM
Take the phone without INDIAN SIM to another country
Put the non-INDIAN SIM in while being in another country
Use the phone and NEVER FACTORY RESET

Pau Correct, as long as you unlock it in India with an Indian SIM you will be able to use it in other regions.

If you factory reset the device you will need to repeat the process.

This post was absolutely hilarious!!! Part I don’t understand is why would people need to factory reset their phones?!?

Is it something people do in India every so often just for something to do?

I’ve been on every single Preview/Alpha/Beta from Google since they’ve started doing preview programs and I’ve never had to factory reset. Same with Microsoft Windows, been on Insider program with every computer/laptop since it’s began, no resets.

As for Nothing phones, the OS itself isn’t beta, just the changes Nothing has done to stock Android from Google, Google has already done the alpha/beta program which ran almost a year now and has already been final for awhile.

I haven’t had any bugs on my Nothing phone whatsoever, but there’s a few graphics glitches that bug me.

GordonLutz it’s hilarious this is even a problem to begin with if someone pays for a device they should be able to reset it on the moon without being locked down to some stupid rule

I’m sure that you would be well aware of the circumstances in which a person is forced to do a factory reset; it’s always a last resort.

Let me also refresh your memory by quoting from the post announcing the 2.5 beta 2 -

Disclaimer: Since this is a Beta version, there’s a very small chance the test software may interfere with your data and require a factory reset. In this instance, your data will be lost. We strongly recommend backing up all your data before accessing the software."(end quote)

‎ ‎Thats why I’ve been requesting Nothing to ask it’s retailers in India to caution buyers not to do any software upgrade while they’re outside India.

But obviously, the best solution would be NOT to put such a lock in the first place.

I bought nothing from India straight and came to UK without using an Indian valid SIM on it. I struggled so much to fix it, nothing worked for me. Finally I got a solution, I contacted SUPPORT TEAM in India via call and reported the problem. They asked few details via mail and forwarded to UK support team. I contacted the UK support team to do the process faster. UK team unlocked my phone within just 1 .5 hours. I could have done it first rather than goings before the YouTube tips. Go straight with nothing guys. They are so helpful
