Humane Ai Pin; "The disappearing computer" - the future of mobile tech?

Humane showcased their “Ai Pin” today at Paris Fashion Week as part of a collaboration with Coperni. The Ai Pin is a “screenless, standalone device and software platform built from the ground up for AI”. “The intelligent clothing-based wearable uses a range of sensors that enable natural and intuitive compute interactions and is designed to weave seamlessly into users’ day-to-day lives” including “AI-powered optical recognition and a laser-projected display, all powered by an advanced Snapdragon platform”

A short demo of the device’s capabilities was previously released in a TED talk by Imran Chaudhri, Humane co-founder and former Apple designer. This demo showcased abilities including receiving and answering calls, getting shopping inspirations, translating speech live, catching up with missed messages, and receiving allergen information for a product just by holding it in your hand.

The full capabilities of the Humane Ai Pin will be released on 9th November.

adbo I’m always interested to see how AI can become part of our lives, in a way that it supports us rather than completely taking over. This tech is early days, and I’m curious to see where Humane go with this pin. Right now, I’m not sure how it would help me, solve any of my issues or make my life easier than what my phone or watch can do.

It seems they are tapping into something that perhaps isn’t really needed, or where an issue doesn’t exist, yet they are trying to make people’s lives easier. Perhaps that latter point is what they are trying to do, make things easier for people and to create a more efficient lifestyle 🤔

I think you’re right there.. I can’t imagine many people wanting to use this device other other smart devices that are already on the market. Perhaps higher level business people that require AI summaries of their calendar, messages, etc. But other than that I’m not sure who this is marketed towards.

Speaking of, I think I’d rather have glasses! At least I can get the information I need, such as directions, right in my view rather than having to raise my palm and looking down - especially if it’s busy and I’m trying to get around quickly. I just don’t think glasses are there yet. I think the design and thickness of the screen on Google Glass put most people off. Something designed similar to the RayBan X Meta glasses would be cool - they also have AI built in. If only they had a small screen

I really want to try this out! Kinda reminds me of Google Glass but in a projection style. I’d love this to have access to quick information with just the lift of my hand. Assistant answers, direction’s,compass etc.

Your comparisons to Google Glass resonate with me too, what other tech displays information without a screen? Not a great number of products in the category. Very much looking forward to reviews to get a real world understanding of who this is for, and which devices it is intended to replace or be a companion to.
