Camera zoom issue

During my time using my phone(2a) plus, when I opened my camera app and tried to zoom it is unable to zoom till 2 x

Is this supposed to be like this? I have reached out to nothing support and they said it was definitely not normal. After some troubleshooting, I still have this issue. They then recommended to sent my phone for diagnosis but it would inconvenience me so I opt out.

Just to cut out user error:

Have you double checked the resolution is set to 12 MP? Because if you select the large 50 MP mode, you aren able zooming in further than 1x zoom, since it’s digital and essentially crops the image.
