Enhancing AOD on the Nothing Phone

Hey Nothing community!

I’m currently using the Nothing Phone (2a) and, as a previous Samsung and iPhone user, I wanted to share some feedback on Nothing’s approach to the Always-On Display (AOD). I think Nothing has done an amazing job by including an AOD option on the 2a, especially since it’s a feature they could have reserved just for the flagship models.

One thing I really appreciate is how the AOD on Nothing phones doesn’t clutter the screen with unnecessary info—it keeps it simple by showing essential details like the time and notifications. However, I think it would be great if Nothing added an option to keep the background image visible with AOD, similar to what Samsung and Apple have done. Of course, this should be customizable, so users can decide whether they want to keep the background visible or not.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting that Nothing should simply copy Apple or Samsung’s design. I love the unique style Nothing has developed, and I believe any updates should still reflect that distinct design. My point is that adding more customization options could enhance the AOD experience for users. I’m just sharing an idea here, and I’m sure the Nothing design team could take it further to make it even better!

I see where you are coming from, as I’ve also been an avid Samsung User since the Galaxy Note 9. I always liked the option to put at least a small logo or picture of the AoD if wanted. Something similar for Nothing would be quite nice, at least as an option.

Maybe not quite what you’d like, but a possible option already available: You can add a photo widget to your lockscreen / AoD, either circular or rectangular, you can pre select specific photos or just a single one to display on the screens and also select if you want a frame around it or not.

By the way you can always submit feedback right from your Nothing phone via a feedback form, just open settings and search for feedback, you’ll get a link to the right page.

Welcome to the community 😊 i think that the point of AOD is to keep it minimal and simple without backgrounds and images.

I completely agree with you, and I think there’s room to improve the Always-On Display (AOD) feature further. Perhaps adjustments could be made, like controlling light levels or timing, or even allowing customizable background images. It would be beneficial to keep these options so that everyone can personalize their experience. And of course, users should have the option to disable the feature if they prefer.

The AOD was gud ,but staying the led at the same place affecting the screen, I’m facing screen burn issue, so I just turned off the AOD feature.

I see where you’re coming from—I remember the Samsung feature you’re talking about, with the option to add a small logo, picture, or even a bit of wallpaper on the Always-on Display (AoD). I agree, something similar for Nothing would be a great option for customization.

Thanks for the tip about the widgets! I just tried it out. While it’s not exactly what I was looking for, it’s still a handy feature. Appreciate the help, mate! But As I mentioned, I think Nothing could step up the AoD a bit more.

No no no, go to battery usage and compare Nothing AOD to Samsung’s, the main reason I like nothing compared to Samsung is that battery life is mich better on nothing, due to better SoC(I live in Eu so we get Exynos in Samsung), less bloat and less needles functionality. Keep it the way it is

AOD should be kept at minimal information. My suggestion will be not to include the widgets in the AOD. As this causes screen burning issues on my Phone 2a. Specially the widgets on the AOD are causing massive Screen Burning. option could be added like the Analogue Clock and icons of notifications received with preview option when touched on the specific app icon (much like Motorola)

ArindamBhowmik Thank you for the information! And I agree with what you trying to say. I just wanted to suggest adding more options and settings for the AOD feature. This way, users could have greater control over customization, and those who don’t find it useful can simply turn it off. Expanding the settings would help make it more appealing to a wider range of users.
