Recently while using my Nothing ear (a), I noticed a little wiggle in the top of the case when I applied a lateral force. Mitigating this movement while creating a product is obviously very difficult and close to impossible because everything has certain tolerances. However this, along with the fact that the top of the case is plastic (while several other companies use silicon for better grip and safety), caused me to look for additional protective cases that I can use with the earphones. There are a few available on the market but these will definitely kill the aesthetics, which is a huge deal for me, but also that these covers look really cheap and I’m sure I saw one that was using a double-sided tape for holding onto the original case.
Now I obviously do not expect Nothing to in itself also create protective cases for these buds and I’m sure they are confident in the strength of this case, but I think the pill shape of the case also prevents good cases to be designed as there is very little area for an overcover to grip the body.
The case is also complete plastic, is round and I have hyperhidrosis so it is very easy for the case to slip out of my hand. The case also very easily glides across the table, especially on mousepads, making it easy to be pushed out. It will be great to see a blend of silicone in some parts of the case, especially the base, to provide better grip, and additionally, if not officially, create some aesthetically matching cases for these devices so some of these limited conditions can be overcome.
Nothing is already doing great in terms of functionality and these minor issues might not always be on the list of concerns or functions, but it will be great to see these subtle features in work.
