Sidebar for multitasking

I’ve seen a few comments asking for this in Nothing OS, but don’t really know why it’s needed? I’ve never had the need for anything like this personally. Can somebody explain the value of this?

Carl Honestly even I don’t understand….

All the phones I used previously had the sidebar but I never bothered using it….feels useless to me..

Although I saw people using it for multitasking.

Carl no one uses sidebar for multitasking , as of now Nothing OS 3.0 is great and unique. I am watching everything since phone (1) , every one get to know after few years what you are up to , really doing great , I am huge fan of Nothing.

Carl as the name suggests the SIDE bar should be kept aside. It is like putting a useless sticker on the display and allowing the battery drain and the side bar sitting there without any actual job to do only playing as a shortcut to another shortcut for an app, over the shortcut icon on homescreen,. I mean. It is one ugly thing that has ruined software experience from all these decades. am glad its not there in Nothing OS.

Gin I agree - I came from Samsung and could never get used to the sidebar so never really used it either. I guess it’s nice for quickly switching into apps that you regularly use, maybe taking notes, quickly starting a recorder, etc. I guess a lot of that is achieved with widgets/shortcuts nowadays.

What I did use surprisingly often was the S-Pen - when you take that out, it pops up a menu for you to quickly open an S-Pen specific app, such as translate, screenshot, take notes, etc. But of course that’s not really relevant for a phone without the stylus.

It would be cool to see this in the system. I was always a bit jealous of Samsung users. This feature could be great for launching important apps, checking the weather forecast, and maybe using AI features?

I never used the sidebar and I never will, coming from Samsung phones. I just felt it was useless. I like the app pinning in app drawer instead!

I also think tht is not a needed thing. Most of my friends and colleagues who have this feature don’t really use this thing and they just keep it disabled on their devices.

Personaly I think locking a app in recents like AICP and some other old customroms is much better feature than that.

I believe having a sidebar is incredibly useful, especially for multitasking. Before switching to the ‘Nothing’ phone, I relied on it extensively. It’s very useful when using apps like WhatsApp and wanting to quickly open Instagram or another app. Without a sidebar, the process becomes cumbersome—you need to return to the home screen, and for those of us who prefer a minimalist, clean home screen, it means swiping right to find the right app.

The sidebar eliminates these extra steps, It makes navigating your phone much faster.

When I switch to nothing I was actually finding sidebar in settings to enable it.

Yes, feels useless to me too. Please don’t put a sidebar it’s not necessary on a small handheld device at least.

Need this option for multitasking, we can switch between apps without going out of the previous application. Also we can use it to open app in pop up view with minimizing the previous application which is opened

If we implement only apps list then it’s useless, but if we can use this as clipboard which is capable to store image , urls and

also we can make it more convenient to make apps in popup view minimise , like if I want to minimise what’s app and like image below just swipe up and drag to sidebar so much easier

than , swipe up-> select popup view -> click on minimise icon then it’s minimize

Hi, I used a Samsung for a while and I specifically loved the sidebars ability to view your clipboard and shortcuts for multi window apps.

Having the ability to have a storage box type thing to drag and drop text, pictures and other files for later use or to post and save elsewhere is a great feature.

It is a completely unnecessary application, I have never used it on any of my phones. There are a lot of applications related to this on Google Play, anyone who wants to install it. It should not be bloated by being included in this system.

once again, I am delighted that you yourself are using the community page for feedback from us, such as me, and I don’t want to miss out on this opportunity.

Personally, I don’t think the sidebar is necessary. I don’t like it when functions are duplicated and triplicated in an operating system, but I prefer it when there is a logical and uniform path for each function. In the case of Nothing OS, there are widgets that contain many functions that only involve checking information.

To launch apps quickly, there is the double press power button gesture or the pin function in the app drawer.

I see the programming of a side bar as wasted capacity and would rather invest the development capacity in system optimization or the implementation of new widgets or glyph functions.
