_rofe_sor-X_ chill bro I’ve been using cmf phone 1 for around 4+ months (bought in mid July) and I use it in extreme conditions like charging while playing games for 5 to 6 hours continuously at max supported settings. My daily usage is around 14 hours. I also use it for editing. I also use it outside for 2 to 3 hours in direct sunlight ( while it does heat in sunlight it’s not unbearable )

WTF. I have been using CMF phone as my daily driver since I bought it on launch. Now I am afraid to use it. There are too many corners cut in building this mobile. To name a few:

Extremely thin and flimsy back cover that is designed to be replaced, but if you tighten the screw a little, screen can gets damaged.
Camera lens cover that is so easy to scratch. Just cleaning it with clean microfiber cloth scratches the same. Both of my camera len covers are now badly scratched. To compare I have a 8 years old redmi note 3 lying around and that doesn’t have a single scratch on its lens cover. So that itself shows the quality of this phone.

I won’t be surprised if this also happened due to some manufacturing/quality control issue.

@_rofe_sor-X_ Can you edit the title? If yes, I would suggest to add that 1 person is dead due to blast and other person is in hospital. The news you have shared is in Marathi and I am not sure if everyone will be able to understand the same. Hence asking you to add more details for other public

jai919pandey This is one of the things thats wrong with us Indians. We take everything for granted. 1 phone in just 5 months of getting the phone launched is not really a good outlook. That too when this phone was heavily criticized for its camera on Youtube and not many people would actually have bought it. We need Nothing to do proper investigation and let us know if there is some maufacturing issue and if more devices might have been affected by the same. If required they should provide replacements.

I came across a report about a tragic incident involving the CMF Phone 1 in Maharashtra. As per ABP Majha, the phone exploded while two people were riding a bike to Sangli. Unfortunately, this led to the death of one person and serious injuries to the other.

The exact reason for the blast hasn’t been confirmed yet, but such incidents are often linked to battery issues like overheating or swelling. Nothing hasn’t released any official statement about this incident so far.

As a CMF Phone 1 user myself, I feel concerned and wanted to share this with the community.

It’s a reminder for all of us to be cautious with charging practices—use original Nothing / CMF accessories, avoid overcharging, and check for any signs of battery issues.

I’d be more concerned with the detachable rear cover leading to a puncture and/or improper battery protection, to be honest.

The official chargers are very expensive, at least in the UK. I found an ANKER 30 W With PPS 2.0 for £10 instead.

CMF1_hacker I think its the fact that he lives in India. where he lives was around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius mixed in with pollution is around 30 to around 38 degrees then add on the bike heat and his body temperature, it exceeds the limit set by the user manual.

ItsmehotdogGaming So, my question is, why don’t other brands’ devices blow up if that’s the case? Big players in India like Samsung, MI, BBK electronics, and Apple don’t seem to have these issues. Every country has its own safety standards for electronics, and if Nothing is breaking into India, it makes sense that they’ve followed the regulations set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. If they skipped that step(Which is btw impossible), shouldn’t they have at least looked into the climographics of the Indian subcontinent? This just doesn’t sit right with me. There’s a reason why we see different versions of the same phone model in different regions due to different safety standards.

RogMick There are plenty of people fanboying and protecting Nothing on the forum while Nothing is not even taking any actions for the same. People on the open beta thread are blaming the person who died saying he might have used a faulty charger, while Nothing never really gave any specs for a charger that can be considered as the supported charger.

GunjanGupta_VaerB1lEDd Absolutely ridiculous! I was a loyal Google Pixel user, but I made the switch to Nothing because they seemed unique and customer-focused at first. Now? Now it’s just a repeat of the same mindless fanboy culture we see with other brands, especially Apple. What happened to the genuine innovation and community engagement? It’s funny to see Nothing fans blindly defending the company as if they’re infallible! If there’s a problem, they need to come clean and actually address it instead of pinning the blame on a biker who tragically lost his life when his device exploded. If the charger caused the battery to fail and burst, why are they not including it in the box? And don’t even get me started on the outrageous pricing for standalone CMF branded chargers! It feels like they’re just cashing in on our loyalty. I’m seriously regretting my decision to switch to Nothing. I should have gone with Google, Samsung, or Apple, at least their devices don’t have these issues, work better and they actually have decent customer support, not this scripted nonsense we’ve been getting from Nothing.

I have raised a support request using Official Nothing Support – Nothing India stating that I want to return the phone as there is no action being taken by Nothing to investigate the incident. I would suggest other people that are concerned by this blast to do the same as well.

SathwikKunapuli All the news article I read stated that accident happened because of the blast and blast was likely due to overheating of battery. Can you share the link where it says phone exploded after the accident due to impact?

SathwikKunapuli According to the clues you pointed out, I think it is possible that the phone fell and than the motorcycle happened to pressed the phone and exploded. The casing of cmf phone 1 is actually very soft, which may cause it to be unable to withstand excessive pressure and cause the battery to rupture.

Also I hope that Nothing will make a public response after the Indian police disclosed the cause of the incident. If cmf phone 1 has any design problems that will cause the explosion, Nothing should recall all cmf phone 1.
