Questions about Phone (2) before buying

Hi, I’m thinking of getting the Phone 2, coming from a OnePlus 7T. The last update to the 7T took away a bunch of features I used, and I can’t find anything in any reviews for these, so figured I’d ask here.

Can I force dark mode on only some apps?

This might be an android thing, but Do Not Disturb used to show me all notifications, but only make noise or vibrate on ones I set. The newest update on my phone doesn’t show all notifications, and it’s a lot harder to set apps to override, and it doesn’t always work. So wondering how things are on the Phone 2.

Also could be android, but I used to be able to hide or deactivate stock apps I don’t use. The update undid what I had, and now I can’t even get rid of the default messages app. So again, how is the Phone 2 with this?

Can I turn on on screen navigation buttons?

Can I turn off haptics?

Is it possible to hide the front camera on screen? Like, until the new update, I could just have a black bar there. Even though it shrinks the screen overall, it also made it easier for me to swipe down from the top, and I just don’t like seeing the camera, haha.

And for cases, I haven’t found many options. Which makes sense being a new phone. But, I’ve used Unicorn Beetle cases for years that are very protective. My current one has a kickstand that pops out too. The kickstand is nice, but not important, and probably unlikely with glyphs, but any recommendations for a strong and protective case?

Hello there, you’re in the right place to ask 😉 here are my answers :

I don’t think you can force dark mode just on specific apps
I don’t use the DND myself, but I guess the point of DND is to not be disturbed. So of course you shouldn’t receive notifications. Also, glyphs act a bit like a DND itself, and the important notification on 1 glyph feature lets you know if there is something really important you should check cause this LED is on all the time until you check the notification.
You can deactivate native Google apps, and it will not be shown in your app drawer. You can be more aggressive and even uninstall them 100% with ADB command (no root needed)
I don’t know what is screen navigation buttons… sorry
you can’t turn off haptics (or being in silent mode)
you can’t put a black top bar natively but there is a whole lots of apps that does this trick
Spigen is manufacturing some clear cases for Phone(1) & (2), they are well recognized in the case space 😉

Overall this new nothing OS is SOOOOOOO pleasing to use, it’s a really a breath of fresh air in the android space, super smooth, beautiful design (hardware & software), well integrated Nothing apps (especially Nothing X for nothing earbuds)

Remi F Thank you! Yeah, it’s looking like the dark mode thing is an Android thing and I’ll be stuck no matter what I get. When I use DND, I still want to not miss notifications when I checkfor them, but also know when there’s something important, so it sounds like glyphs will work for that. Except when I’m sleeping. And thank you for everything else! This all helps a lot. It seems like I can’t really get everything I want anymore, so it’ll just come down to whatever is the best, I guess. But this one is definitely a top choice so far.

johnmadsen Right. It’s the apps that don’t that I had been able to force it. But can’t do that for all of them, because some are unusable that way. The white is just too bright for me, haha.
