Default apps setting

Hi, how do I set MX Player as the default video app? Whenever I open any video file using Google Files, it opens up in the native Google Files video player instead of MX Player. I understand we can manually select Open with -> MX Player every time but I was wondering how we can set it up so that all video files automatically open up in MX Player?

Also, Settings-> Apps -> Default apps doesn’t have an option for video player either, atleast not on Nothing OS 2.5.1.

I can’t even remember if you could, I used MX Player for awhile but that was around 15 years ago.

Oh, in Google Files, long hold on the video file, and click the 3 dots up top right and pick Open With, then you get options for what app, and I think then you’ll get the option for Once or Always.

That’s the thing, I don’t get the option of Always or Just Once when selecting Open with. The video directly plays in whatever app I selected directly. Maybe its an idiosyncrasy of Google Files.

I just remembered that option for Open Once or Always Open, but like I said, that was long ago and I don’t have any video app on this phone to try it, but I wouldn’t doubt Google messed it up.

I just installed MX Player to try and yeah you’re right. That’s definitely lame how you can’t set it as default.

Just found out something even stupider Google Files has done. If you’ve placed a video file in the safebox, then you don’t even get an Open with option for those files and it automatically opens up in their default player😮‍💨

I’m done with Google Files and am now looking for a better file explorer. The default file manager in OnePlus was the best and also came with a lockbox. Tell me if you find/know of something similar.

I got you bro just follow this easy step and you will be able to see that option always or just once step 1 just click on Google files app then click on app info

Step 2 then scroll down you will see open by default option click it

Step 3 scroll down then see one option is their clear default preferences click it

Now you are all done ,just click any file or video it will show you the option just once or always

Now select your mx player and enjoy.
