Sim support - Phone (2a) India

Hello Guys, a major doubt regarding Indian variant of phone 2a one of the unboxing videos from Indian youtuber shows that phone 2a Indian unit supports only Indian sim, does that mean it is useless to buy phone 2a if i am moving abroad like say Europe or US? can someone clarify

Assuming this is the same as phone (2), a phone (2a) purchased in India must be activated with a valid Indian SIM on an Indian network. After it’s been activated, you’re free to travel with the device, but bear in mind if you need to reset the device for any reason, you will need to activate it in the same way once more

If it’s like the Phone (2), then if you buy an Indian unit then it will need to be activated with an Indian SIM and on an Indian Network when first setup. If you reset your phone, it would again need to be set up using an Indian SIM on an Indian network. I don’t know if this will apply to Phone (2a) yet, but that’s how it works for Phone (2).

I do remember seeing something along the lines of “Please enter your Indian sim” when I first set the 2a up.

So you’re saying it can’t be used out of the region it was purchased in at all?

Meet it can be used outside of India in other regions but the device has to be activated first.

If you’re not able to do so, I recommend getting in touch with support to see if they’re able to help.

I’m planning to buy the Nothing Phone 2A at Saudi Arabia and would like to use my Saudi Arabia (STC SIM) and India (Vodafone SIM) as primary and secondary. Will it work, or I need to do any setup..?

Meet You only need to activate it when turning the device on for the first time, or if you factory reset your phone. If you go on a trip to the US you don’t need to do anything, just avoid factory resetting your phone when you’re there.

Meet Activation is using a India SIM on a India network while setting up your phone initially. Then the rest of the details are as we’ve mentioned above.

Meet Yeah using a US carrier is fine, just avoid factory resetting it where you can. If you can’t and you do reset it for whatever reason, you’ll likely need to talk to support in that case.

Hey 👋

With Phone (2a) there is an international version and a India SIM only version. For the international version you shouldn’t experience any issues, although it’s always a good idea to check that your network bands are supported for the best experience.

With the India SIM only model, you will need to activate first using a India SIM on a India network. You will then be able to use in other regions.

The message on the box ‘India sim only’ is confusing. To me, it means that a non-indian sim would never work in the device. If that’s true, it is annoying!

VineathK As Chris and Derren explained a few posts earlier. You only need to activate the Phone with an Indian Sim for the very first time. After that you are able to use the phone with any sim as long as you don’t do a factory reset.
