Remi F I would disagree with the gallery, people should stick to google photos, and if not there’s plenty of options on the play store, even an open source with no ads. They’re still new and we are not happy about the camera, they should optimize the camera app and improve the launcher (which is good, but still needs features that’s offered by other free launchers), and now they gonna make gallery.. they need to fix bugs on that, and people will just keep asking features, and who knows people probably will expect it to be as good as photoshop lol.

Keseven I disagree, almost gallery apps on play store are either full of ads or not polished enough. There is the fossify gallery app that is highly polished but it is still not as good as google photos. Gallery apps from Oneplus, Oppo, Xiaomi and Samsung all incorporate on-device smart search features that google photos can only do if you back up your photos, so I think it is totally valid for people to ask for a good gallery app if they don’t want to back up their photos to google.

ashutoshkumar_sg2 Fossify gallery is good, open source and polished. If want provide gallery, next people will ask more features.. probably will expect it to have all kind of filters and editing capabilities which only paid apps can provide.

If want oneplus, oppo, xiaomi.. plenty of models to choose from. Had to buy Nothing which only had Phone 1, Phone 2, 2a and want it to be like oneplus, oppo, xiaomi?? Why nothing in the first place? I rather them put the energy more in the OS optimization for all their currently supported phones and also.. camera for phone 2 still needs improvement. One of the beauty of stock Android is.. the team don’t have to do too much work like it needs for MIUI, ColorOS, OneUI. However, Nothing has done a good job, with stock android, we get things like clone apps, native app lock, which works marvelously. These are essential, not gallery app which plenty of choices on the app store, like fossify. Or can just buy something and go ad-free for the price of one lunch.

Anyway seems they are working for the gallery app.. it’s ok, if in case they changed like how oneplus moved from oxygenos to coloros, I will stop getting nothing and I hope people here will buy more nothing and never complain nothing has become like oneplus. Hope not all talk.

Keseven bro, why are u becoming angry? A smartphone company must need their stock gallery,dialer,file manager etc important apps. But why are u tightly against the gallery app? We need it. By releasing gallery app how nothing would be oneplus,xiaomi , So lame line it is! 🤣

Keseven Bro, it’s not that deep. Google photos sucks. Many times, when i try deleting multiple photos from camera app, the google photos “overlay” just hangs and goes back to camera. Things like this are infuriating for those who like to use their phone as a camera (and that’s a lot of people). If Nothing is trying to fix that with a standalone app, it’s good.

Also, it’s not like gallery apps are hard to make, and nothing’s team likes to make stable apps that don’t need to be updated much. Also, about Nothing becoming ‘oppo or oneplus’ just because they’re listening to their customers, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Carl Pei left Oneplus only because he couldn’t stop OxygenOS from merging with ColorOS (according to me), and now that this is his own company, I genuinely believe in him and the Nothing team to be sensible enough to not essentially become another Oneplus, Oppo or Xiaomi.

Mahathir By having their own gallery app, they will not be like ant of those other companies, yet… But that’s how it starts isn’t it? While I am fine with Google photos, I have nothing against a Nothing gallery app, it would keep my Nothing Phone photos separate from the ones from other devices. But the trend I see here on the forum is that people ask for more and more features, features that all those other companies that he mentioned have. A smart sidebar, a phone manager app like Oppo/Xiaomi phones have, a theme store and so on… If it would have all those features, I might as well could have stayed with OnePlus. It’s the OS in its current form that drew me and many others in here. Stock like experience with some additional very handy features while keeping it fast and light, just like the OnePlus of old used to be.

Stringfellow_hawke but these apps are should have for every smartphone company. These apps are identity of a smartphone company,I think. Just like nothing will optimize their apps for their phone better than google apps. Just like google file manager app is not so outstanding. Again , A Ram manager(security) app must needed bcz nothing will optimize this apps better for their phone. Thus we can get a smooth experience.

Mahathir I could see some merit in a own file manager, but that’s about it in my opinion. Having all these apps like a phone manager etc is what makes a skin over Android heavy and less smooth and optimised. Besides OneUI, all other skins like ColorOS on both Oppo and OnePlus phones, Xiaomi’s HyperOS etc are all heavy, bloated skins because they have their own apps pre-installed over the ones that are already built-in Android ans present on the phone as well. And more own apps means more work for the Devs too, work that otherwise could have been done on the OS. Anyway, this is just my opinion of course, you see it differently and that’s fine.

Stringfellow_hawke yeah that’s fine. But nothing os already occupied 26gb storage which is so heavy and big .. on the other hand, Xiaomi’s HyperOS is now occupy only 11 gb which more lighter . But I dont like BBK electronics’s phone based on China. They are not promising as told before. But some features are really good in bbk phones which should be implemented on NOTHING

But, nothing have showed their level and passion for funny promising tech Which is interesting to me . But nothing have to more way to go !

Mahathir Ah, on my 2a it’s only 17GB. Anyway, that is indeed seriously light, Xiaomi’s HyperOS. But their skin still feels heavy to me though. Now, we’ll see what the future brings of course, maybe they will add a whole set of features to NOS. But if the are going to make it the same as all those China OEM’s, it’s hard for them to stand out I think. Glyph lights won’t be enough, people like me hardly use them anyway.

Keseven Yup, that sounds about right. And tbh, I don’t know why people bought Nothing phones in the first place. Their USP is a lightweight close to stock Android with no bloat and some useful (but not to much) additional features. Which is why I switched from OnePlus after their whole shift to ColorOS.
