Hello there.
I would like to share with you my wallpaper designs I created for the second stage of the Community Edition competition and the ideas behind them.
I decided to hand draw almost everything in my designs because I wanted to offer an organic feel to the wallpapers themselves and even the submission’s slides. The two biggest reasons for why I took this design route are the community itself and the winning hardware. My designs are organic because the community came together organically to create all those amazing submissions, while the fireflies and their bioluminescence are related to and, respectively, derived from living matter (literally the definition of “organic”).
Another reason why I decided to hand draw everything is because the lines I created are soft and work incredibly well together with the rounded corners of the phone and the UI elements.
There are also industrial aspects to my designs which contrast with the natural details presented above, inspired by Nothing’s hardware and, of course, Kenta’s and Astrid’s submission. They are most prevalent in the first 3 wallpapers, albeit the last wallpaper integrates them in a more subtle way (the eyes are inspired by the marketing campaign, the concept of marketing being tightly related to any industry).
I also managed to incorporate the green and red colors present in the winning hardware. The seemingly white lines are a toned down version of Ghost Green (achieved by making them slightly transparent), the background of the second wallpaper is Industrial Green, the bright greens of the first and last wallpaper are the fluorescent green and there is at least one neon(-ish) red component present in every wallpaper.
All in all, I poured my heart into all four designs, considering the competition, the community, and what Nothing’s all about, and gracefully captured the best of everything.
Thank you for taking your time to read through all of this. If you want to find out even more details about the creative process and how the designs seamlessly incorporate the winning hardware, or if you would like to vote for my wallpapers, head over to my submission’s page or just search for “radu” in the submissions portal.
If you have any questions about anything, I’m more than happy to respond to them here.
If you made it this far, here is where you can download my wallpapers from: Google Drive.
