Rmck066 Hey there! That’s a very cool concept 🙌🏻 Thanks for sharing it. I really like the cassette inspiration. The mix of retro and futuristic vibes really fits to the Teenage Engineering/Nothing/CMF lineup. And I love the orange accents that bring up the CMF identity.
Since you asked for feedback, I’ll try to give you my impressions, both from the user perspective, and from an industrial engineer perspective as well:
- Pros: Besides from the above mentioned, the use of aluminum as the main material makes the product sturdy, durable (as you mentioned) and represent the M from CMF (materials). The idea for the logo is also really good looking and gives the product a “premium” feel.
- Things to improve: There is a blank space next to the speaker mesh that breaks the look a bit. Perhaps I would suggest filling it up with something? Whether a LED bar (like a glyph), or even a tiny AMOLED screen to display info such as the song playing. Also, the back side looks too flat, which could potentially make the device to slip in flat surfaces. Maybe adding some “supports” in the corners would prevent this (think in a phone case. Most of them have some extra material in the corners to make the phone level in a flat surface). And lastly, one advice from an engineering perspective: Try to take into account how the things you design are gonna be manufactured. I believe that manufacturing the lanyard hole would be rather complicated (although not impossible) from an industrial point of view.
I hope you find this feedback useful, and thanks again for sharing this with the community! I’m so impressed that you could design this concept being 16 years old 🤯 keep working hard and training your creativity, and I’m sure you will have a very bright future 🙌🏻
