I recently quit my smartphone, in part because there’s been little improvement in the user experience but mainly because of sheer practicality. I run, a lot and having a device that is both small and light is a very necessary thing to have. I neither need nor desire an enormous portable screen that I can be connected to the internet all day long.
I can imagine other use cases for not having an enormous screen, for example, smaller hands, children, ease of concealment etc.
It seems that there is now a gap in the market that nobody is interested in filling and leaves me with no option other than to return to using a feature phone. I am old enough to remember the days when compact, usable design was desirable for mobile devices. Is mindless streaming now more important than portability in this market?
I’d certainly give nothing a go if they were to offer a smaller 5-5.5in screen size. Any thoughts or is there just no justifiable market available for this type of device?
