  • Charging Dock and Standby Mode for Phone (2)

Recently I came across this video from Scott Yu-Jan where he designed and build a wireless charging dock for an iPhone 15.

I found the idea really interesting, and since I have a 3D printer myself, I thought I would give it a go and try to make a version adapted for Phone (2). However, before I started designing, I realized that the standby mode in the NP (2) is very limited, only showing the time and date, but not any other useful feature, like in the Apple devices.

Maybe I’m missing out on some settings, but I would like to ask the community what are your thoughts on the concept of having a dock to wireless charge the phone, while being able to see some functions with the standby mode.

Perhaps this will be a feature in the upcoming Nothing OS 3.0, who knows. But I do believe that if the people from the Nothing team see some interest in the community, they might give it a go and further develop the standby mode.

In the meantime, I’ll start working on the design of a charging dock, and if I see some interest, maybe I’ll post an update here.

Please share your thoughts below!

Rob ⚡️ changed the title to Charging Dock and Standby Mode for Phone (2) .

I like the idea mate, I would certainly benefit from being able to dock my device and then only see relevant notifications and information when it’s docked. The iPhone has got a very solid implementation of this. I also think Nothing could do some really cool things with transparency when it comes to a charger similar to what they’ve done with their usb c to c charging cables.

I just need to start embracing wireless charging, beyond the use of Magsafe on iPhone I’ve not really ever used wireless charging as I find it easier and more reliable to plug it in.

There is an app called standby where, you can get the same thing as iOS here. With rather better customisation

    Hey,

Did you end up doing this? This is something I’ve wanted to do too! As for the standby mode, there are some good apps available on the play store which have similar function to the Iphone

I’d love to see the progress you’ve made, and print one for myself, so please share the files.

      DhyanTanna hey there!

Thanks for the interest. I haven’t had much time recently, but I wanted to give it a final push this week.

The design is almost ready, but I faced one issue: The charger

I want the design to be as “universal” as possible so everyone can use it, but I would have to choose one specific model of wireless charger, as there is not an official Nothing charger.

So my plan is to first print a fit test for the phone, and once the dimensions are good, I can move forward and finish the design for a specific charger.

I’ll share the files in this discussion once I have them ready

There’s an app called Widget Screensaver on the Play Store that allows you to add any widgets to the screensaver and with the use of KWGT, which allows you to create custom widgets I was able to recreate standby mode with the benefit that it’s fully customisable.

This is how I made it look.
