Improving Core Apps: Are Basic Features Being Overlooked in the New OS Update

Hey everyone,

I wanted to bring up a topic regarding the new OS update. While there are some cool new features like widgets and extra functionalities, I’ve noticed that most of the time, I’m not really using them like weather app, composer. What about you all? For me, the basic apps like the dialer and gallery are what matter the most. These are the core apps that we use daily, right?

A big issue for me has been the dialer app. A lot of us have been asking for dialer for almost a year now, and it still seems like it hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. Wouldn’t it be great if the company focused more on these essential apps instead of adding extras that aren’t used as much?

What are your thoughts? Shouldn’t we push for more attention to the basic apps to improve the overall experience? Would love to hear your opinions!

The default dialer is Google’s, not Nothing’s. There is nothing they can do to improve it, unless they make their own. That of course introduces the chance that it won’t be as good as Google’s, but I’d hope you can uninstall whichever you don’t like (and I hope the same for photos/gallery).

This is an interesting balancing act that Nothing has to take… why invest R&D into applications that Google provide as default unless there’s significant user benefit? For gallery they explained there’s an experience gain (speed) from having a Nothing developed gallery app, that’s a win. But, for dialler, and various other apps… why? What is the point? Aside from theme’ing.

You then reach into a world where there’s a ton of duplication on device. 2 galleries, 2 dialers, 2 this, 2 that. It’s the opposite of what Nothing want to provide…. a smooth and seamless experience.

NothingOS is bloatfree OS.
Android as it meant to be, with extra tweaks and all (app lock, dual apps, etc)
Most of us are from OxygenOS era and that’s what we wanted. You want bloats, that is the direction of OnePlus. You can go with OnePlus. Please let Nothing be what we don’t have, which is OxygenOS era.

The google dialer is already with minimal design and matching nothing app line, if nothing will do a dialer app i think that desing will be the same like in google dialer and with the same options.

That’s right, Notning should develop its OS and its vision. Gradually get rid of the default boring Android and move to its beautiful style.
