Thrilled to be among the first few to test the new Ear (Open) in the past weeks.
Couldn’t wait to see if my predictions matched the actual design and test the sound quality.
I’m not a pro tech reviewer, but here’s my experience with it!
Firstly, a special thank you:
Thank you to the Nothing Community team for getting me hands on with this lovely product before their official launch! Truly appreciate the involvement.
Design:
Nothing’s design team has nailed their signature style with these open earphones, bringing a fresh twist to the table—in a good way.
The case ditches the boxy norm, delivering a sleek, lightweight, and compact solution as you’d expect.
Everything else is very much Nothing that we’ve grown accustom to - well designed and thought through.
Sound:
Ear (Open)'s really exceeded my expectations on this front.
I’m not really an open earphone user, but the clarity and the quality of these are really, really good. (Believe me, I’ve used a lot of in ear headphones and over ear headphones)
Although the bases are a bit low- this is to be expected. But the clarity is really stood out to me.
Phone call experience was also good - although I’ve received comments about my voice being a little bit muffled when I had these on.
Usability:
I mainly used tried them out while commuting, at the gym, and working from home.
Perfect for staying aware of your surroundings during your commute or workout, though they fall short in noisy cafes when you need full concentration in my opinion.
The battery life is great, they’ve lasted me 3 days-ish on 1 battery with decent use on each day.
Comfort:
Initially, I struggled to find the right fit, expecting a snug in-ear feel. Now, I do not have the most standard ears, but I reckon these will be super comfortable to most. This is the main reason I’ve never really owned open earphones before.
But once I got it right, they were incredibly comfortable and lightweight, thanks to smart material choices and the ergonomic design. I genuinely forgot they were on my ears and compared to Ear(a)'s didn’t give me the discomfort I usually get after extended period of use.
Verdict & Thoughts:
This product is set to carve out its own niche.
I’ve owned Ear(1)’s and was rock Ear(a) daily.
Would I switch them out?
In certain scenarios, absolutely. I crave good noise cancellation and stellar sound quality for when I’m working.
These truly outshine Ear(a)'s for commuting, hitting he gym, and all-day city adventures.
If these scenarios fit your lifestyle, they’re highly recommended. These are now my go to for day-to-day when i’m working from home or just need something on the go!
