Hey Community!
Recently, I’ve read a community members comment on a post on how to safeguard their device from unauthorized access via lockscreen even when the device is locked. I am sure many of you may already know the answer but to me, It was something new which I had no privilege to experience in my previous devices. So, anyone who may be looking a way out to safeguard their device via quick settings menu in lockscreen, disabling wifi or hotspot access and why readable notifications should be disabled when phone is locked. This may help you a little bit.
Please have a look at the screenshot with highlighted setting in lockscreen page.
Pros of this settings:
- No one, including yourself can access the quick setting menu via lockscreen. To access only you - the owner of the device, can unlock it with via pin, biometric, or face unlock.
- By disabling all notifications on lockscreen (see Privacy option above), nobody will know what text or code or any harmful links pushed notification it was, this is most helpful when you started track my device via find my device on google, such notifications cannot be seen on lockscreen.
- Having a custom text is a very creative way to showoff that your device has a strong encrypted lock. you may add any text that looks very intimidating or restricting - use your creativity.
- Keep only those widgets on your lockscreen that does not compromise your overall device settings.
Cons:
- Only you and those who know the pin, has fingerprint data to unlock, face unlock, and any other users of your device will be able to unlock. if your phone can unlock only via pin and doesn’t have fingerprint data and if you have not enabled face unlock feature, anyone with pin can easily unlock your device.
- in case of emergency, you cannot access your quick settings menu from the lockscreen, this might become worrisome in long run and depends on how you want to keep your phone unlocked.
- if you have placed any quick settings on the lockscreen like airplane mode, do not disturb, this can be used against your efforts to track the lost device. So, choose carefully what widget you add to your lockscreen.
- In rare case, where you may have forgotten your pin, and do not have face unlock enabled and your thumb or fingerprint is not recognized, your phone is locked like forever. Face unlock might come handy in such cases.
I hope this may help someone new to nothing so, I did not have this experience in any of my previous androids and to me this is new. I feel that my device is now safe after using these settings, but I am sure, when we are so habituated to use quick settings from lockscreen, after enabling this option it may be an unnecessary burden. It is completely your choice on how to safeguard your device. Let me know if you have any more tricks and comment your tips below that may help us all.
Thanks for the read.
