Carl Pei interacts with the community, the whole company is doing the same and yes, they need to grow bigger and phones like 2a and plus variants help them achieve such a target. But if you want to settle down as a company producing great midrangers ( like how Redmi series used to be) that trajectory is awesome.

But if you intend to sell flagships in the future, it’ll be based off the past flagship users and the people that bought NP2, the company’s current flagship, which is ONLY a year old.

  1. Camera improvements : little to none after the release. It’s embarrassing to showcase a phone worth 40k+ on release, having a poor camera. Inconsistency has been the greatest Achilles heel. It takes good shots at times, at times- yes. But give it bad lighting, human skin tones, hdr situations - we will get a water colored, exposure blown mess. Same goes for the video, wherein daylight it’s good not great. Anything that’s not an ideal lighting, it’s straight up bad. Portrait mode SUCKS so bad. Same thing with selfie.
  2. Battery : from 2.6 update, there’s been a huge dip in battery life. From a solid 1~2day battery life to one where we have to charge it twice or more frequently than before. Battery life was something I used to boast about in NP2, it WAS phenomenal.
  3. Heating : there’s been a difference since 2.6 update and a rise in temperature is something that happened after the update.
  4. Navigation gestures : IT’S simply not working correctly. Other phones and custom roms don’t have this issue but hiding navigation bar makes swipe to home and recents page harder. I’ve restarted / reset after updates, nope. It’s still finicky and unreliable.

Minor changes to all or any NPs.

  1. Vibration can be further tuned. It’s forgettable right now. Missed calls while in vibration mode is a thing.
  2. Material You themed icons aren’t available in NP phones yet. I’ve resorted to 3rd party solutions but if you can implement the black version of icons why not the themed icons as well.
  3. Icon size, grid sizes & widget sizes. Everything is limited and locked. Guys Apple changed from these restrictions, freaking Apple!!! We android users shouldn’t have to request these features in the first place.
  4. Launcher update : swiping to the end for clearing all apps? Why? No Google lens integration for quick search.
  5. Search : there’s no global search features, for searching contacts, apps, files, folders. No fuzzy search implementation. Currently using Sesame search, again 3rd party for normal basic tasks.
  6. No squiggle animation in media player notification. Native android feature.
  7. Notification sounds : is there going to be any normal non robotic notification sounds for nothing?
  8. 3rd party apps integration like Instagram and WhatsApp is meh.

Things that are great.

  1. Changing font to Sans : thank you. Much needed for legibility / readability than aesthetics. But still keeping NDot in other animations elements. Great.
  2. New app drawer seems promising. Let us have the ability to Custom arrange folders too.
  3. Quick settings revamp : huge thanks!
  4. Performance, smoothness(would appreciate more smoothness)
  5. Charging speed!
  6. Display, great. No complaints.
  7. Timely updates. Community here doesn’t have the patience, but all the updates arrive on time. Super proud of that.
  8. Speaker sound is good, call quality can be better.

Thanks for the improvements so far.!!

HSD The Nothing software team is currently focused on a snake game widget. Last year, Nothing users complained about the camera performance, but the company completely ignored it. A camera widget was introduced with the launch of Phone 2a, but it is still not available on Phone 2 and Phone 1, as the company focuses only on its most popular model.

RavishKumar true there are some problems with phone 1 as well if they fix that it would be unbeatable phone main issue is battery and ui optimisation

HSD kindly add the horrible app animations and lags in the improvements which are needed , because my phone 2 lags significantly while opening / switching apps , and only sometimes its fine , mostly it lags like crazy , rest of your points are good , but my battery is fine i am running nothing os 2.6 , not the last oct security patch yet and nor does my phone heat beyond what I would like so yeah thats it

Biggest problem I have is significantly worse battery life since 2.6. That’s one of the most important things for me. I also agree with vibration needing tuning. But two things you haven’t mentioned are:

        1. Terrible volume control on wireless earbuds. Tested on both Nothing Ear (2024) and JBL Tune Flex, inconsistent controls.
        2. Location accuracy for Weather app. (At least for Serbia)

Though positives are smooth OS with a lot of pretty details, a lot better experience than iOS or OneUI which I’ve used before NOS.

SamarthNP1 damn nothing really needs to look into this , even with such powerful hardware in phone 2 app animations lag severly

Yes all your flaws are perfect and up to date if you guys are listening to the community then do improvements accordingly right now the navigation issue and camera issue are the major one its literally embarrassing to show case the 42k np2’s camera

You are right, when can we have camera improvements (it’s a flagship!!) and also google lens integration. Even xiaomi already have google circle to search.

        12 days later

Since the latest update, battery is now amazing. Easily 2 days eithout charge. I won’t switch to NOS 3 until I see enough feedback that it stays as good as now.

Vishwam I bet but I daily this device so I’d rather not beta test. Thanks for being one of the testers though. Is battery life as good and what is the best improvement in your opinion?

Anonymous268 Yes everything is good. And I also only have Nothing phone 2 and this is my daily driver I don’t have this secondary phone and I am on beta version and its phenomenal its superb and its more smooth now in beta. I meant beta is smoother than stable 2.6

I think half the things mentioned in this thread have been addressed in OS 3.0. Only things lacking are as mentioned the cameras and battery life. There is definitely a need for improvement and it’s hard that we’ve been waiting for camera improvements since last year. Hopefully they’re working on it and it’ll drop soon.

Anyone from nothing team could you provide acknowledgement that you are working on camera improvement

Keseven For me it’s good because I don’t do so much photography. I casually take photos. Acording to that it’s good in phone 2

So many of those complaints are just issues with Android and Nothing wanting it to stay as stock as possible.
