Search apps immediately after opening app drawer

dear community,

i am seriously considering switching over to the nothing phone after 10 years of iphone usage. naturally, there are some ux questions that are of high interest to me, and i can’t find answers without being able to try the device first. i hope somebody can help me out

the most important thing for me is to find apps or documents on my device without having to swipe through all the icons. on ios, you just pull down the screen and type what you are looking for.

on android devices, i have observed many times that you can’t simply pull down and type. instead, you have to tap the search bar first, which seems like a very unnatural extra step

can you guys, as existing users, enlighten me on how this is implemented in nothing os? Also if this behavior could be tweaked somehow

You can swipe up from the home screen to open the app drawer.
The app drawer has a setting to always show the keyboard. Click the three dots in the upper-right corner, I think it’s off by default.

The app drawer only searches apps, not documents. If you click enter with no results found it will launch the Google app.

Some kind of Nothing search widget/app would actually be interesting, I’ll probably create a thread about that sometime.

yes, in terms of UX, one should think about it as a „finder“ or „windows button“ just type what you are looking for and choose from results, be it an app , a doc or anything else Indexed on the phone

The google search however is „not as expected“ since it takes a private query out there, should always be the las option presented
