Something that has been messing with me for a while is Android’s media widget in the Notification Pane, with its cropped album artwork, with overlaid controls awkwardly covering up the artwork:
It’s even more problematic with Nothing OS 3, with unequal margins compared to the Quick Settings tiles and lockscreen widgets. Furthermore, it just doesn’t look very Nothing: there is a bit of a stylistic mismatch between Google’s rounded cartoony tinted controls and Nothing’s straight monochrome aesthetic.
I wanted to make something that I would personally find better looking and that appeared more consistent with the design language of Nothing OS:
On the left, the album artwork is shown in full, with an animated playback indicator in the lower left corner.
In the right half, the media source, title of the song and the artist, and a seekbar with a timestamp for the current position. (I don’t know how feasible the waveform is, but it also might be replaced with just dots) In the top right, there’s a simple icon for the device the currently used device.
Instead of tiny buttons for playback controls, the entire widget is interactable: you can tap to pause and unpause and swipe left or right to change tracks, similar to the homescreen Media Player widget:
And you can switch between media sources by swiping up and down.
Tell me your thoughts 🙂
