That was a pleasent surprise by the Nothing team, personally I had high doubts they’d make the final release of OS 3.0 for December, let alone just before Christmas. As an avid Nothing Phone (2) user who avoided testing the Beta, I have to say I am pleasently surprised:
- Vibration for custom ringtones and notifications is finally working again! Even though it doesn’t when selecting a tone from the Glyph menu.
- There is now a slider to adjust vibration strength, while it is very subtle, it’s at least an improvement over having none at all.
- Haptic feedback while typing at first seemed to have been improved slightly, with the sounds from the vibration motor being less loud, however after another phone restart, it’s back to OS 2.6 levels and I can’t revert it.
- Finally being able to set a custom charging limit is great!
- While I like the new clock designs, I’m still using the well known N-Dot style we’ve always had. I’m glad you decided to keep it as an option.
- Same goes for the N-Dot font inside the settings menu, although I really dig the new font, I still switched back to the dotted style.
- I mostly enjoy the new quick settings menu and the new widget menu.
- I tried the new smart drawer option, and the result was fairly decent, but can’t compete with what I, as a human, would do. Some of my shopping apps were listed under “Lifestyle” instead of shopping for example. Being an EV owner it did however correctly organize most of my EV related apps under “Travel”, but failed sorting the app of my car there, that again was listed under “Lifestyle”. I reverted back to the old drawer for now.
What I don’t really like is the way you are handling the release of the Nothing Gallery. It suddenly appeared for everybody, even OS 2.6 users, on the Play Store, it doesn’t seem to integrate with the camera app by default, there is no dedicated post or introduction here on the Nothing Community and it is lacking some basic functionality in terms of features (gif support, editing, set as wallpaper,…) which so far, even though OS 3.0 is now labeled as stable, makes it only barely useable as the only solution for a gallery app.
