I am a computer engineering student currently in my Second year. I bought the Nothing Phone (2a) and I am really mesmerized by the company and the products that you’ve built. All I’d like to ask you is, two years down the line, what is it that I can provide Nothing as part of my software engineering skills, that Nothing hires me.
Just tell me what it takes, and I’ll do it!

The bar to joining Nothing gets higher every year.

By the time you graduate, the only way to join is to be good enough at what you do that we’d need to compete with Apple, Meta, OpenAI to get you.

@RohitPakalapati might have some more practical advice to share, seeing that he recently joined us.

BTW for those reading, the example companies above only apply to the software engineering track that was enquired about. For other tracks, we’d need to compare with leading companies there.

Carl Nowaysid I can definitely share my experience here. The first and most important thing I’ve learned is that passion alone isn’t enough; it has to be supported by action. If you’re passionate about a brand or vision, channel that energy into improving your skills and building knowledge that aligns with the role or company you’re aspiring to join. Focus on consistent effort, as that’s what creates real opportunities.

Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone. Personal growth often requires bold moves, whether it’s learning a new skill, taking on unfamiliar challenges, or even relocating to a new environment. For me, moving from a small village in India to the UK was a big leap, but it pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Your leap may be different, but the willingness to take that step matters.

Seek out guidance and learn from others. When I first met Carl, his advice opened my eyes to areas where I needed to grow. That realisation drove me to work even harder. Be open to feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve yourself.

Finally, remember that success is built on a combination of passion, consistent action, regular reality checks, and patience. Manifestation works, but only when it’s paired with effort and a willingness to adapt. Be honest with yourself and others, stay eager to learn, and always give your best. If you’re truly passionate, it will show, and people will take notice.

All the best on your journey!

RohitPakalapati @Carl Thank you for this wonderful message, I’m really inspired by you and aim to bring change.

Thank you for all the great work and love you all put in, it definitely reflects the values.

Your insights are truly valuable, I’ll keep working hard so that I can also bring value to wherever I work in future.
