Can the next Nothing Phone 3 match the iPhone 16 Pro Max?

I have been using an iPhone since iPhone 3G and have continued using Apple products to this day, though I haven’t been crazy enough to upgrade on a yearly basis.

Over 6 months ago, I got myself a Nothing Phone 2a as a spare for my home country’s sim and have grown to love the interface, camera and overall feel of the phone. I have grown tired of how bland the iPhone looks and the minimal increments they introduce yearly to their models.

The last straw for me was the useless Camera Control button and Apple Intelligence, both falling short of its expectations. I use Open AI and Gemini than I do Apple Intelligence.

Now, coming back to the Topic.

What are the chances that the ‘Nothing Phone 3’ would release a phone to compete with the iPhone 16 Pro Max? Can they match or better the camera systems, processing speeds?

I am moving away from the iPhone and that is final but what should I choose that falls in the Android realm?

Shayne “nothing” can match the iphone specs on the flagship devices like other brands does, we should wait to specs of np3 in this summer.

Shayne to be saying frankly. NO, Nothing might not provide the quality, perfection, performance etc.. to compete with the I phones. Let’s take an example of nothing phone 2. At its price range @Nothing has used snapdragon 8 gen 1, imperfect displays, 4,700 mah battery.and even Nothing also removed charger from the case. While others brands like oneplus etc. providing better processor 8 gen 2 and such a better hardware. . With in this price segment.

I bought the nothing phone just because of its ui. Just to experience new OS.

Nothing could provide a bit more to users. Like better amoled displays. Metal frame, and rigid structure rather than plastic for phone 2a.

Finally. Nothing phones are not beast when compared to i phones and samsung. Even xiaomi, iQOO are delivering performance at affordable price.

Shayne The Nothing OS is nice but in specs it’s mid range , I’m using the Nothing phone 2 it’s performance would match the iPhone 12 max the rest is pretty average , I’m also using a Samsung s24 ultra and that matches the iPhone 16 pro Max all round , I recently used the Oppo find 8x pro and that is ahead of them all , it’s best to try these devices if you can rather than ask those who have never used them ..

I like macOS but hate iPhones.

Android is super tuneable as is macOS and Linux.

I find the iPhone way too closed.

CMF1 is the best around.

I highly prefer NOS over iOS on a phone. MacOS/Linux is better than both tho on other devices.

Yes,but not now.People buy iphone and samsung s series even if they priced 0.5 million.But Nothing is a new company and they didn’t build enough trust and quality standards in terms of hardware capabilities across their phones Also the overall budget is lower than big players.

Nothing is different.People who like uniqueness buy nothing phones.I preferred Nothing because of these characteristics.

There are many phones out there better than iphones and samsungs. Why people by them is beacuse of their brand name, years of experience and reliability in the market. They have a loyal fanbase and even people from the first iphones or the first galaxy devices. For Nothing its the 2012 era of Apples and Samsungs. But with their innovative ideas and AI implementation itll be faster to get in par with the quality of these products. In due time, all in due time.

Technically to meet iphone 16 pro Max the nothing Phone 3 must have these basic features in the first place;

2k display (Phone 2 has 1k display)
SD 8 Elite chipset which has antutu scores of around 2.6 million (Phone 2 has 8+ Gen 1 with 1 million antitu score)
4d vibration motor (Phone 2 has average motor)
Mic quality must be top notch. (My wife can hear the other person a distance away from my Phone 2 while I am taking a call)
Let’s just forget the cameras 😝

nah, not the 16 pro max. I dont think they will target premium series with phone 3 but lets. see.

To be serious for a second here, Apple is a strong hardware company that provides devices that last a very long time and they provide very long-term support.

It’s not only about initial specs but also about longevity and support.

Like I said I have quite we few Apple products (1 x MacBook, 3 x MacBookAir, 1 x MacBook Pro, 1 x iMac) but currently a OnePlus 13 and my CMF Phone 1.

I bought this 24″ iMac in 2008 right after finishing my PhD and we still use it as our only TV in the house in 2025. The picture quality reminds excellent as does the sound. Currently my children are watching it during breakfast.

My last MacBook 2011, lasted daily until 2020 when I had the second SSD fail and the battery had over 3000 cycles on it.

I can even update this nearly 20-year old iMac to the newest macOS but I haven’t done this yet.

Anyways, it’s not only about upfront cost and spec list but the overall longevity over the lifespan of the device.

I tend to go to either end of the spectrum (CMF1 or OnePlus 13) as I find the stuff in the middle poor value-for-money and that’s where the Phone ½/2a/plus sit.

My last phone was a Xiaomi 10 Youth Edition ad I wanted the cheaped 5x periscope on the market (£300 in 2020). Children broke it sadly after 4 years of hard abuse.
