Essential glyphs not working in most scenarios

I was excited to use the essential glyph feature, but it largely doesn't work for me. I've tested it with the following notifications, with the ones in bold being the ones I actually wanted to use it for: **Messenger messages from my partner** (doesn't work) **Missed calls** (doesn't work) all Messenger messages (doesn't work) all Whatsapp messages (doesn't work) calendar task notifications (doesn't work) emails (works) I'm pretty sure I'm doing it correctly and I've seen some posts about this already so I know I'm not the only one. The glyphs are the one thing that really set this phone apart from every other and they don't seem to work for many of us; I don't think this is acceptable. Hopefully a fix is in sight.

did you set it up using the type of notifications for the app like so ?

Sorry it’s in french, but essentially you should choose what conversation needs to trigger the essential glyph notification

MarkM_gYwgF1fnwE I’m on 2.0.4 too & I’ve successfully set up the glyph notification led for a whatsapp message from one person.

When you tap to set up essential notification, all the apps show up.

Select whatsapp & then select the person whose notification is important.

Make sure you turn notifications from whatsapp on else the essential notification glyph won’t light up when you receive a WhatsApp message from the selected person.

This is how mine are set up at the moment. I think the calendar one worked last time I was messing around with it. I guess more testing is needed.

Hello, Mark. I’ve been having the same issue and it nearly drove me crazy as I almost only use flip to glyph and essential notifications. I’ve been going through every setting one by one, restarting the phone and seeing if that works. After going trough all the main permission, battery and notifications settings I found that disabled animations has caused it. If you have disabled animations (in developer options or accessibility menu) the essential glyphs will not work. The solution (at least till the developers fix it) is to remove ALL essential notifications, restart, enable animations, restart, add back the essentials and voilà. Hope that helps. Love you all!

It had been a bummer trying out every single trick trying to get Essential Glyph to work. Damn, I didn’t know it was the animations that were affecting it.

Like you mentioned, I turned animations back on from the Accessibility Settings, rebooted and added a test event on my calendar to go off in a few mins. Like a charm, Essential Glyph lit up!

For me the essential glyph is not working when the glyph timer is in progress. Can we pls check on this?

Note for devs: Ideally, the processes shd be on different and parallel threads, but seems like the timer overrides the essential one.

I am also having the same issue. I have set it up for my gmail. still no essential notification red light while locked. This should be looked in to and tested as a bug.

It seems unintuitive but if you have DND on, essential glyph doesn’t work. Your priority conversation only pulses once like a normal glyph notification. Not really an issue to me since flip to glyph silences notifications (albeit a little inconsistent) but if flashing glyphs annoy you and you want to be able to use essential glyph, you might need to keep DND untoggled for it to work and modify your notification settings on the annoying apps to avoid the flashes as much as possible.

Hopefully there’s an update that would fix this as it used to work on my Nothing 2A and has been one of the reasons why I love the Glyphs.

My essential glyph suddenly stopped working on my essential Messenger notifications.

Is there a way to fix this?

Why doesn’t the essential glyph now doesn’t work like it did before . I had turned it off for a long time and when I decided to turn back on it doesn’t work like before . Now I can’t pick one contact as essential in WhatsApp. It had to be all messages or all group message like that . Is that so or I don’t know how to do it ?
