Subject: Severe Idle Battery Drain (15-20% Overnight) on Phone (3a) - Nothing OS 4.0
Device: Nothing Phone (3a)
OS Version: Nothing OS 4.0
Build Number: Asteroids-B4.0-251229-2335-IND
Issue Description:
I am experiencing significant idle battery drain of approximately 15-20% overnight. Because I live in an area with poor cellular reception, I must leave Wi-Fi ON overnight to receive calls and messages. However, the drain is excessive even with multiple battery-saving measures active.
Key Observations from Battery Stats (2 am – 4 am window):
Total Overnight Drain: ~15-20%.
BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India): 55% usage during this window, despite the app being Force Stopped and having Background Data and Battery Usage set to “Restricted”.
Google Play Services: 27% usage in the background for 2 hours during the same period.
Screen Time: 0 mins (Device was completely idle).
Steps already taken to mitigate drain:
Restricted BGMI: Set to “Restricted” in App Battery Usage, disabled background data, and force stopped the app before sleeping.
Permissions: Revoked “Nearby Devices” permission for BGMI.
System Scanning: Disabled both Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning in Location Services.
Hardware Features: Turned off Glyph lightings and Always-on Display (AOD).
Software Optimization: Kept “Manage app if unused” enabled to ensure system-level hibernation.
Battery Saver: Enabled Battery Saver mode while sleeping.
Problem:
Despite these extensive restrictions, BGMI and Google Play Services together consumed 82% of the battery used during this idle period. It appears that high-load apps like BGMI are bypassing background restrictions or triggering persistent system tasks through Google Play Services in Nothing OS 4.0.
Request:
Please investigate this idle drain issue on the latest Nothing OS 4.0 (Asteroids-B4.0-251229-2335-IND) build, specifically regarding how third-party apps can maintain such high background activity despite being restricted and force-stopped.
