As you already know, HDR is not supported on Netflix and Prime Video when using a Nothing device. What if I told you that even YouTube’s HDR is broken on Nothing phones—would you believe it?

Here is a post from December 2023 that discusses this very issue:

I also tweeted about this in great detail regarding the problem I faced:

It turns out this issue persists on most Android devices, but the good news is that I have a solution for you all.

Using this solution, you can watch HDR in its full glory on YouTube, Hotstar, and even on VLC for Android if you have an offline HDR movie or video.

It’s very simple:

1. Enable the developer settings on your device.

2. Search for the “Force 4x MSAA” setting and turn it on.

3. Also, turn on “Disable HW overlays” as shown in the screenshot below.

After that, clear all recent apps, open YouTube, and try watching HDR content on YouTube or Hotstar—you’ll be surprised by the true power of HDR.

Important Note:

Turning on these two options will significantly impact the performance of games and other graphics-intensive apps on your phone. It is recommended to turn them off when you’re not viewing HDR content. Additionally, you will need to re-enable these settings every time you restart your device.

Have fun,

Has someone noticed that it’s impossible to see wide gamut content in web browser? On my Phone (2) since Nothing OS 3.0 I cannot view images or video in wide gamut or HDR in any web browser. HDR on YouTube works fine though.

Bro only diable HW overlays is fine. This option would still enable the change.

Now what it does is changes a filter. But if you turn it ON , it will make the details in black areas bit un noticable. But it does looks good and we can use it. . the only bug the nothing phone has is that with this enabled you cannot unlock the phone with fingerprint sensor. Try it you will see.

Now I use both depending on the picture quality , if it’s a dark scene sometimes use the default one. But sometimes the overlays as well.

AlexMrngstr69 How do I pin this? And why isn’t there an option to pin stuff?

Also, you’re right—it does make the fingerprint reader unusable. I didn’t quite understand what you meant about the dark parts. In my case I felt like the shadows are being crunched to the max, and I thought it was the HDR effect in action. Is my phone really doing that darkening to the shadows? Please elaborate on how you overcame this.

JospherKanna As of now ,there is no way to overcome this. Just updating here for the wider audience so that everyone is aware. The darker parts are enhanced but some details are missing so just use it when you want to try. If the scene is too dark then use the default one by disabling it. That would be my advice .

Also the fingerprint bug is present.so no way to fix other than not using it
