If you are into macro photography, you are going to love what the Nothing Phone 3a Pro can do.
This phone is a powerhouse when it comes to detail and clarity and the best part? You don’t even need to invest in an external macro lens. Just follow these steps and you will be capturing stunning close-up shots like these in no time.
1. Open the Camera App and Switch to Macro Mode
Start by opening the default camera app. Swipe through the modes and select Macro mode. The macro mode on the 3a Pro uses its Telephoto lens to focus incredibly close, giving you crisp, detailed shots without needing any add-ons.
2. Get Close, But Don’t Overdo It
Move your camera close to the subject, usually within 3 to 5 cm. You will notice the camera adjusting focus. Try to stay steady or use a mini tripod for sharp results. Tap on the part you want in focus and let the phone work its magic.
3. Control Exposure for a Dramatic Low-Key Look
Want that beautiful, moody look with a dark background and a lit subject?
Here’s the trick:
Use a directed light source. In this tutorial, I used the light from my dental office, but even a flashlight or the flash from another smartphone works. Aim the light at your subject while keeping the background in shadow. Then, underexpose the image slightly. Just tap to focus and slide your finger down on the screen to reduce the brightness. This will enhance the contrast and give your image that striking low-key effect.
4. Fine-Tune with Expert Mode (Optional)
If you want more control, switch to the Expert mode:
Set the ISO low (like 50 or 100) for cleaner shots. Adjust the shutter speed depending on how steady your hands are. Use manual focus to precisely dial in the sharpest details.
5. Review, Edit and Share
Once you have captured your shot, don’t forget to zoom in and review the details. The 3a Pro holds up impressively well. You can use any editing app to enhance colors or sharpness if needed, but most of the time, the image right out of the camera looks incredible.
