Just yesterday I was able to get a reply from Support as I have a Nothing Phone 3a. Had the same issue as many folks here, password does not work even if I am sure is 100% correct
They told me:
“The password reset feature is currently available only in software version 3.2; however, the Nothing Phone (3a) series has not yet been included in this update. Regrettably, we do not have the capability to provide a file for an early software update.”
The only option you have if you do not want to wait (also because there is no estimated timeline) is to reset your phone.
So I backed up the phone and its settings and reset it. That took care of the private space issue.
At the same time I will not use the private space again before version 3.2 is shipped.
Took probably 3 hours to do the whole order of backing up and restore plus re-logging into my apps
BUT I had no choice. I had some banking apps in my private space but I could not install them again as Google Play would refuse to install them in the “regular” space as it said they were already installed (in the private space). This is technically correct.
Before doing all of the above I also tried to delete private space but guess what… You need the password so… we are back at square one
