Voting now open!
The time has come to elect your new Community Board Observer, who will serve throughout 2024!
Unsure what a Community Board Observer is? Check out this thread.
A huge thank you to all that applied. After a thorough selection process, we have shortlisted 3 candidates, any of which could take the role based on your votes. Congratulations to them on making it this far!
It will be this person’s responsibility to represent you, our community, in Nothing’s board meetings and to keep you updated throughout the year of 2024. In fact, the elected member will get straight to work: their first Board meeting will be in January!
We’ve asked each of our shortlisted candidates to provide a statement - take your time reading through, and make your vote count:
Roddy @RoddyMerritt:
I have been fascinated with tech from an early age. It started with video games and slowly moved into the internet, computers, and mobile phones. I’ve always had a “Cell Phone” since they were a thing. From the bulky Motorola’s, then to Nokia, back to Motorola’s Razr, Blackberry, iPhone and now I’m surrounded by whatever the latest tech is…I’ve always been fascinated with tech! I became interested in being part of the tech community in 2019.
I stepped away from a style typical day job, and decided to follow my passion as a entrepreneur. I had this drive to create something of my own. My company, Merritt Productions, was the weaving of my love for photos, video creation, tech, and marketing rolled into one. My company has now become more than a dream, it is now my reality. Working with friends who are like family, as my team, we enjoy helping small businesses grow.
Maybe this is why I felt so strongly about not only supporting the Nothing brand, but why the community seemed so important to me. I understand that a team is necessary to achieve great things. “AVENGERS UNITE!!!” The Nothing community is a place that feels like a family/team, that encourages and helps. We share the vision of wanting to see the brand grow. Yes, we are fans, but more than that, we love what this brand stands for in tech. It’s given us something we’ve missed. We enjoy the uniqueness and fun of these products. We love the affordability and value for money that we receive. The reliability and innovation drives us. As a community, we love that! We enjoy being surrounded by others that share in this vision, excitement, and interest for something that is more than just a device that helps us, but a statement about who we are.
As Community Board Advisor, I want to make sure that our voice is heard. The role of CBO is a huge responsibility, one that I plan to respect and treat just as important as any other role within the company. This position is the voice of Nothing, because the community is what drives this brand we care about. That means celebrating what we love about the brand and devices we use. This role means exploring and sharing ideas and anticipation for whats to come, but also engaging in ways to make the company and the devices better, while overcoming things that might be pain points in our experience.
As CBO I would commit my time and dedication to my continued support of the Nothing brand. I want to show respect to the community by humbly and frequently engaging in day to day communication on forums, the discord, social media and so on. I think sharing the thoughts, ideas, and opinions on a global scale is important and an area I want to make sure is heard and recognized if I am voted to the CBO position.
I want to thank each and everyone of the community members who vote and care enough to let your voice be heard. I look forward to continuing as an active community member. I hope you will gladly, confidently, and happily choose me as your next CBO and look forward to the future of this community.
Louis @Louis :
Hello! I’m sure many of you already know who I am, but for those who are new here, I’m Louis, a Social Media & Communications Manager based in London. Within the Community, I am part of the Mod team, but uniquely I was also your Community Board Observer for 2023 - and I really feel like it’s was just the beginning!
Throughout the past year, there’s been a lot of feedback that I’ve taken to the board that we as the community have voiced. We’ve seen great results and outcomes from the points that I’ve raised at these meetings - some points were actioned upon, others gave wider consideration for the team as well as informing the board of how we, the community were feeling about Nothing.
Should you vote for me to serve another term, my goal with this position will be to continue to amplify the community’s voice, but there are a lot of new executions and initiatives I’d like to put forward. For example, I want to create a space where I can hear from the community more and ask direct questions about specific things. I’d like to make myself more openly available at key points throughout the year, improving my communication and feedback with you. Another example revolves around enhancing the role further internally for Nothing, to broaden it beyond just a quarterly meeting, with a monthly drop-in so that more of the community’s voices and feedback can be heard on a much more frequent basis. I have many more ideas of how this role can evolve, these are just a few things to whet the appetite.
As I mentioned in my first application over a year ago, “this isn’t about me being an individual, as the title states it is the community and so we are in this together”. I’m just the privileged spokesperson for all of us, and it would be my absolute honour to represent you all for a 2nd year in a row.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application and best of luck to the other candidates!
Rohit @RohitPakalapati:
Hello, Nothing Community!
This is Rohit Pakalapati, and I’m so happy to be stepping forward as a candidate for our Community Board Observer. My journey has taken me from the colourful landscapes of India to the dynamic environment of the UK, where I’m currently pursuing my master’s in Marketing Management (digital). This journey has given me a broad perspective that I’m excited to bring to our community. Treating everyone with equal respect is a core belief of mine, whether they’re our most engaged members, casual visitors, or individuals voicing their opinions on platforms like Flipkart. Each perspective within our community is invaluable.
As a research assistant at my university, I’ve honed many skills in transforming complex feedback into clear, insightful information. This ability is crucial for the CBO role, as it involves understanding and representing our community’s diverse needs and expectations. But my role goes beyond just interpreting feedback. I’m passionate about uplifting our entire community experience and highlighting the incredible creativity we have. The talents of community members like Rahul Janardhanan, Thomas (RapidZapper), Akash (Akkuphotos), and many others showcase the immense potential we have.
In my role as a CBO, my primary responsibility is to be a bridge between Nothing and the community, to observe, interact, gather insights, and facilitate actions. This role is dynamic, involving active engagement and making real differences based on our collective insights. I am committed to the concepts of co-creation and derivatives, which I believe are vital in building a strong and vibrant brand experience. These concepts, along with the focus on the triple bottom line (people, planet, and profit), guide my approach towards our community’s growth and sustainability.
As we look towards 2024, I’m excited about working collaboratively with each of you to make it a standout year for our community, focusing on creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability. And how do I look? I have many avatars that community members can recognize. I’ll attach my existence here or in chat. You can also find me on the nothing.tech community page, right next to Rob and Luios.
Thank you for considering me for the CBO role. Let’s work together to forge a path of growth, innovation, and stronger community bonds. Feel free to ask any questions in the chat to learn more about my ideas and vision. I’m here for open, meaningful conversations and am fully ready to embrace this role.
I look forward to more interactions and shared experiences with all of you. To learn more about who I am and what I’ve contributed to Nothing, visit here.
