Fortunes - A new Nothing Community Widget

Hey everyone, it’s a pleasure to share we’re expanding the Nothing Community Widget offering with Fortunes by @flo_rahil

What does it do? Simple: it brings a random fortune, pun, riddle or a bit of sarcasm, daily, to your home and lock screens

Supported by @RapidZapper, Rahil’s widget brings you a new remark every 24 hrs and supports AOD on Nothing OS lock screens! Tapping on the widget opens up a shareable card which the user can save or share to other users.

Why not use the content as prompts for journaling or reflections? We can’t wait to see what you think.

Behind the scenes this one was unexpectedly complicated to release so I want to thank both Rahil and Rapid for their patience and perseverance 🫶

To install Nothing Community Widgets, head to the Play Store listing. The app now contains both Snake Game and Fortunes*.

Speaking of widgets, when will we finally get stackable widgets? I don’t want to fill everything with widgets, but I’d like to use several. Also, when is more sizes available (for different Widgets)?

Happy that we get a new community widget! I thinked that it won’t come in upcoming months but you surprised us,

Huge shout-out to @Rahul - he inspired me to do this and set the blueprint for the community widgets.

On the UX front I wanted to give people a bunch of options. You can keep the widget as is on your lockscreen as AOD or keep it on the homescreen then tap the widget to share/download your favourite or scan it with essential space, add it to a collection.

Choice is yours. Enjoy!

flo_rahil I just checked it out. Nice add on widget. I just have a little concern as there is no category or manual quote addition. I feel if people see a random quote first thing in the morning if it is on their AOD or Home screen, there is a chance that it may affect an individual in a negative way, more importantly if they are not in a good mental state. A quote, someone may find it funny while another person can feel that quote in a completely different way. Don’t get me wrong it’s a solid widget, but since there is a chance it will have a negetive impact on some people, we should be a little careful I think and build something that will benefit the whole community.

It will be huge update if there is a pre category option and a personalized quote/thought someone can manually add which will show up in the AOD.

I would love a XKCD comic widget personally(A new project idea not something I am demanding). I will be glad if I can contribute in anyway to nothing community. Such a solid space.

Congrats @Florian , @RapidZapper and @rahul_vgnsh29 nice to see some more community widgets coming together. Is there some official guide on how the community can get their designs implemented or is this some internal process?

Might be good to know some process if others want to get their widgets included in the app or is there some Widgets SDK that can allow developers to role their own now?
