Anonymous994 Can you specify which permissions should I give to essential search for it to fully work? I gave it geolocation, calendar, contects and SMS and that is all it requested, but the gemini integration doesn’t seem to work, what else should I allow it?

AgentY I That’s the four I gave, plus I had to allow access to restricted permissions (do this all at your own risk, I’m not recommending people to do it) for the SMS search to work.

Then I updated Nothing Launcher to 3.3.6, set the default search engine in the Nothing Launcher settings (swipe up, three dots and set default).

After doing those steps it just worked for me.

I already had Gemini installed and set as my assistant (not sure if that makes any difference at all)

I’m on a Nothing phone (2) running OS 3.2, and it just worked following those steps for me.

rasikkondvilkar79 The only reliable one comes from Google Play Store. Ones from APK Mirror may be incompatible with your phone model since Nothing controls the rollout process for different models.

SebastienTo Essential search unavailable - option to choose search option also unavailable. Nothing Phone (2) here. Very disappointed that Nothing is not pushing Essential Space onto their (2) series.

dazedbwoy I am currently using a 3a and I got the 3.3.4 update to the Launcher and the Essential Search functionality isn’t there yet. The UI design change happened but nothing deeper yet. Maybe there’s a server-side update that has to roll out like we often see with Google features.

dazedbwoy You need both the latest Nothing Launcher (3.3.6) and Essential Space (1.0.2) apps, have set the required permissions and be in one of the supported regions. (Australia, Brazil, the EEA, India, Turkey, UK or USA).

If you’ve gone through those steps, have the version numbers listed and are in a supported region then I don’t know. It works for me.

I’m on phone 2, in the UK and updated to Nothing OS 3.2

Anonymous994 okay i gave all the permissions and it started doing mathematical stuff but still not ai search i guess because of the region. i am in the middle east. and yeah i do have the latest launcher.

p.s do you have any essential space trick or it only does work with the button?

dazedbwoy I’ve tried a few things with the Essential Space app but I can’t get it to work. It’s only available from the button as far as I can tell.

dazedbwoy I saw the guys find a command to trigger essential button on any nothing phone but the ai doesn’t work, either it is a separate app(like essential search) or nothing wasn’t lying and older phones really can’t do the required ai processing.

AgentY " yeah, maybe. i downloaded the essential space app and did some research and i found out that by using a certain command you can use any key as an essential space. but i am too lazy to do it.

SebastienTo Ehh, you are honestly not missing anything at all. The feature is still in its infancy, but it shows huge promises and when they implement it well it will be quite amazing. The major drawback now is that it’s just slow, there is no point to search/ask anything there - and then wait - when you can get literally instant answers with Gemini/ChatGPT/Copilot/Grok… Soon enough it will be a killer feature to have. That being said, you will certainly get it soon as they will cover all regions, there is no reason not to.

Anonymous931 you’re right - the current implementation of essential search without Gemini is fine to me so far. I guess I’ll just wait. I’m skipping the (3) line anyway so hoping (4) brings a more rounded AI implementation.

Really like this concept - been able to conduct a singular search across multiple sources will be a game changer and save a lot of time! Again, a useful implementation of AI.

I’m on phone 2. Just done the update. I’ve got the new search, which can go through files and universal search, but I don’t have essential search nor can I quick search with Gemini nano nor can I do calculations. Think that’s all linked directly to essential space and essential search. Ohwell
