Glyph Matrix Ideas

I’m thinking about the Glyph Matrix and I’m curious about the button on the back. I wonder if it could be possible to use it like this:

– When someone important calls me, I can see who it is through the Matrix, and if I want to answer, I just press the button — the call goes straight to speaker without picking up the phone.

– Or when someone texts me, I press the button and the message is read out loud.

Feel free to share your own ideas too — I’m really interested in hearing them.

JanLibis🇨🇿 Love these ideas! I have been in and seen a few posts in the community on Matrix ideas and another floated was having a digital assistant pet.

I honestly, really like the idea, of having a companion-type thing for my phone, like Clippy for Windows in the early days of PC.

A Painter feature would be really cool — imagine being able to draw your own symbol or even create a custom animation for the Matrix.

I’ve decided that the first thing I’m going to make with the Glyph Matrix SDK when the phone arrives is to:

Make a poop emoji show when my office calls.
Make a cross symbol (think: medical) when the school or nursery of my children call.
Make a pound symbol (GBP) when someone not in my contacts calls
Facilitate pressing the glyph button on the back to disconnect the call when number 1 or number 3 is pressed so I don’t have to listen to the phone ring.
If my partner is calling to should a heart and pound symbol (GBP) and to take calls on speaker when she calls.

Just for giggles and to get used to the SDK and it’s operation.

A lot of people say the GM is useless, but every day I read more cool ideas that I want to integrate in my Dot Hub App. It’s amazing how many cool features and alternative ways to do official features people find.

Paul_gsk fully agree! From what I have seen and exprienced from Nothing and the community is.. a perfect balance: innovating with purpose, collaborating openly as a community, and always keeping the user experience front and center. Don’t let creativity be the enemy of good, there are so many ways we as a community can help Nothing, ourselves, and the broader group who will adopt this phone have a better experience.

It’s tough seeing negativity drown out nuance. But when the dust settles, I am hopeful for a positive outcome. The sprinklings of ideas discussed like these here has me hype!

After using it for a week, I feel like even small changes like I mention will improve the experience

Shake your phone to see current battery level. It was already part of older phones and doing it with button is not as intuitive.
Add a better animation for flip to glyph. Its just a diagonal line currently. Should be made bigger and brighter so that you don’t need to focus on phone to verify if it turned on. You should be able to see it from corner of your eye.
Allow app icons to be used as essential notifications. This might be tough to do as not all will work well with matrix display due to contrast issues but at least give an option.

I do feel sad that the previous flip to glyph animation (a sort of firework splash) was swapped for the diagonal line

latest update we finally got Glyph Matrix integration with the main camera, and it’s nice to see the matrix is getting attention.

I’d love to keep seeing updates that I think would be really useful:

AOD screensaver. A static image or even a GIF. Aside from the practical features, I’d also like to just have an option for showing a picture on the matrix screen
Glyph Progress from the calendar. The thing I really miss now, on Phone 2 it was handy to glance at the glyph stripe fill to check the time left before a work call
Battery percentage is way too bright. Right now that’s exactly what I use the back screen for, but it could really be toned down from a solid glowing circle to something less distracting
Matrix dots photos. From what I’ve found online, this feature used to work before for some users, but it seems to have completely removed now. And on top of that, permanent Glyph mirror toggle in the main camera. Right now this setting resets whenever you close the app, and the Glyph mirror option has to be turned on again every time you reopen camera app

Maybe some of this is already available in third-party apps?
