Hi everyone,
I’ve been really enjoying the Nothing Phone 3 so far — I especially love the asymmetrical camera layout. Great job, Nothing!
That said, there’s one issue that’s been bothering me: the placement of the Essential Key. Pretty much every day, I end up unintentionally taking 5 or 6 screenshots — not because I confuse it with the power button, but simply because my hand accidentally brushes against it. It’s a bit frustrating, especially since there’s currently no way to undo or cancel the screenshot once it’s taken.
I’ve noticed that the volume buttons, located on the left side, are placed higher than the Essential Key. This layout seems better suited for left-handed users — their thumb would naturally reach the volume rocker, while their middle finger rests just below the Essential Key. For right-handed use, however, the Essential Key tends to fall right under the palm or side of the thumb making it easy to activate by accident.
To improve the experience for both right- and left-handed users, what do you guys think of these changes:
For future phones
- Move the Essential Key higher up in future versions to reduce accidental presses.
As software updates
- Add a setting to require a double press or long press to activate the Essential Key;
- Provide an option to undo or immediately delete accidental screenshots.
These small adjustments could really improve usability without compromising the Essential Key’s functionality.
Thanks for listening, and again — great work on the design and overall feel of the device. Looking forward to future upgrades!
