Hey, I’ve just recently gotten myself the Phone 2 and I’m not entirely sure how I set up essential notifications? Can someone perhaps link me to a post where I can read more about this?

Thanks! 😃

  • If you head to Settings > Glyph Interface > Notifications, you should see the option to “+ Add new Essential”.

From here you can set it to almost any app, some of which will allow you to be a bit more specific with the notification. For example if you select whatsapp, you’ll be able to set the essential notification to specific chats.

Once set pop your phone face down to fully utilise the feature and you’ll notice that the top right diagonal glyph will remain lit for the app that you’ve set once you get a notification.

I don’t fully understand the destinction between silent notifications and message notifications? I also don’t seem to find all of the contacts that I have with a particular app. For instance, if I look at WhatsApp, it doesn’t let me freely choose anyone. Only recent chats.

I clicked on the add new essential and I selected whatsapp, but I am only seeing general settings. I am not able to select a notification for a particular chat. When I bought this phone 5 months ago, I was able to select a particular chat, but now I’m not able to see that option. Am I missing something here?

sharhansathar - Are you able to provide a screenshot of what you are seeing?

My route is “Settings > Glyph Interface > Notifications > + Add new Essential > WhatsApp > See all channels > Select Contact or Group Chat”

sharhansathar ahh, I see your issue now.

I get a list of my chats directly above all of those options. Not sure why it isn’t appearing on your end. I shall do some fault finding and see if I can replicate this.

        Sure, l

Sure, let me know if you need any additional information from my side. My nothing OS is 2.5.5 and the whatsapp is also updated to the latest.

sharhansathar thank you. Unfortunately, I am not able to replicate the issue. But I have a similar experience with calls and Google messages. I don’t get a list of conversations, or contacts.

If I find anything, I’ll see what the “fix” was! 🤞🏼

Yes, even I am facing this issue. Earlier, I was able to set up the notification for a particular contact, but now I am unable to do it. Have you found any solutions??

First post on this forum, and it is because of a problem with the essential glyph. It used to work on the three things I wanted, messages, Gmail and WhatsApp.

Unfortunately the glyph no longer works for messages; I have tried deleting all the essential glyphs, re-starting and added them back in, but all to no avail.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and if so, is there a solution?

            Hi guys

            Same issue here

I was able to set up essential notifications for specific WhatsApp contacts, but not for messages or calls from specific contacts. Is this by design?

            Regards

            Hi,

I may have some sort of answer for you.

I have the same problem, the chats or contacts not showing. I found out that when you a notification and you want that specific notification to be essential you hold click on it and then you change it as essential.

For example: My friend writes me on WhatsApp and I want him to be essential, before viewing the message I press and hold on the notification, a menu pops up and I change it to essential

            Hope this helps a bit
