I created Vellum as a clarity-focused EQ profile specifically for the Nothing Ear (stick). The moment I started using these semi in-ears, I noticed the usual trade-offs: a wide and airy soundstage, but noticeably weak sub-bass and occasionally peaky mids. So I designed this profile to correct those flaws without sacrificing the Ear (stick)’s natural openness.
I started by boosting the sub-bass to give it that missing sense of depth and body. I didn’t want it to overwhelm—just enough to make tracks feel grounded. I then elevated the mid-bass slightly for warmth, but kept the lower mids clean to avoid muddying vocals. From there, I applied a controlled dip around 800Hz and again near 1.8kHz to smooth out those shouty peaks that tend to creep up on this form factor.
To bring clarity into focus, I lifted the upper mids and low treble to make vocals and lead instruments stand out—without crossing into harsh or fatiguing territory. Finally, I gently rolled off the air region to soften sibilance and keep the top-end pleasant.
I designed Vellum with certain genres in mind. It works beautifully with acoustic, jazz, R&B, orchestral, and indie pop—any genre where vocal layering, clarity, and spatial nuance really matter. It also performs well for spoken word and podcasts thanks to the midrange control.
If you’re chasing a natural, articulate sound with enough weight to stay engaging, give Vellum a try. I built it for exac

ly that.
